Guys, I'm pretty pleased to (apparently) be able to watch an LSU-Iowa bowl matchup. Iowa has always struck me as a good program, good fans, etc. I remember Hayden Fry and those great Hawkeye teams of the early and mid 80s, players with the "ANF" (America Needs Farmers) helmet stickers and so forth. Iowa is a fundamentally sound, very well coached team, and the fact that they've never played in Orlando before should mean plenty of fans on hand for the trip to play the defending national champions. Anyways, here's a brief history of Iowa football write-up (interesting story on "Herky the Hawk", too): http://www.collegefootballhistory.com/iowa/history.htm
I didn't see anything in there about their ass-whooping by LSU in the 2005 Capital One Bowl... Oh, that's not history yet... We have a month to kill people, may as well start talking some smack.
Iowa has a pretty good team. They have a pretty solid quarterback. They are a passing team. Their top 2 rushers have 400+ yrds for the season. Passing yards is 2500 yrds. Pretty much stop the pass and make them run and the game should be in hand. They will run an Oregon State type offence.(Heavy with the passing) -Tigerfan in buckeye land
The key to this game moreso than others will be LSU not turning the ball over. Iowa thrives on turnovers. Their QB (Drew Tate) is going into this game with a helluva lot of confidence, and has really played well down the stretch. LSU must set the tone early with the play on defense and rattle this kid. LSU defense can't afford to play only one half of football like they have done from the Georgia game on.
Iowa's offensive style I'm not sure I agree with that. Traditionally Iowa brings a balanced attack. Only this year they HAD to pass alot. I suspect you will see a balanced attack in the COB since a good TB will be healthy. :usaflagwa cheers!
I mean I think you'll see an attempt to be balanced. Whether they can estabilish a decent running attack vs LSU is a big question.
a bit more I saw the tigerstadium.com site, it was impressive. That said I'd like to share a few meritorious traditions of our own stadium 1. Stands come right up to the edge of the field. Fans can reach out and touch players on the visitors bench. 2. Acoustical design provides maximum noise retention...it really gets loud in there. Not as big as TS but still among the 15 largest college stadiums at 70,400. 3. Pink Visitor's locker room. Many teams have painted their own locker room pink the week before the game (ASU 2003) or White papered over the walls (Michigan and Illinois in the 80's). When ever I read that teams are doing this..I know we've got 'em 4. Fans always swarm the field after the game - not to tear down the goal posts but to cellebrate with the team - It looks like we won the NC - It's just tradition. 5. The Beer Song- Right after each game, the band winds up and plays "In Heaven There is No Beer" as the fans swarm the field. It's a party! 6. Tailgating - Like LSU, Hawk fans love to tailgate...doesn't matter who we're playing..there are precious and few home games each year..and we enjoy every second of each one. Tailgating begins at 6AM and goes all day / night. 7. Cold weather! OH YEA - Football weather! Can't beat a crisp fall morning on game day in Iowa City. 8. Fans come early and don't leave the stadium until the game is over! Rain or shine, win or loose...the fans come and stay.
They havnen't seen anybody with the speed as close as LSU's. Remember last time we played BIG 10 champ. Illinois-2002 suger bowl- SLAUGHTER!:tigerhead :geaux: :helmet: :lsug: :champs: :bball: :tigbas:  :geaux:
