In a word - absolutely. I think it's natural to identify with people most like you. Croom is black and he played football in the South - this gives him tons of credibility, even if it is below the surface. Recruiting is a living room war and I believe very strongly that kids and their families will naturally let down their guard more than usual with Croom. I think it is natural and I think it makes perfect sense.

Kellen Winslow chose Miami over Washington mainly (allegedly) because there were no black coaches at UW. Of course, Winslow is a maniac and a nut job, but he is simply one public example...

I keep hearing that Zook is likely to...

be the next Illinois head coach. He's a Midwest guy and with his recruiting ability that would sure help the Illini battle Notre Dame for the Chicago kids.

Hadn't heard that about Zook and ILL - personally, I would stay as far away from that job as possible...

The old Nebraska (Zolich?) coach is still floating around out there and Ole Miss could go after him - I would like to see him in the SEC...

I just find it ridiculous to fire the most successful coach at Ole Miss in a long time (44/29 record).

What were there fricking expections this year? Honestly.

Ole Miss is acting like Notre Dame, as if they have some long upstanding tradition to uphold.

    Utterly ridiculous.

The man went there and he WON - consistently no less! I agree with you here, they had no business firing the guy.

Cutcliff with go on and be very successful elsewhere while the Ole Miss program will be mired in mediocrity. Actually, mediocrity will be what they will eventually be forced to strive for.

    What fools.

Well it makes sense that they already have someone that is ready to take the job. Like an earlier poster said, this ain't a job that many people will be beating down Ole Miss' door for.
