That pass was late and behind him. If it hits him in the numbers, it bounces back toward JR and falls incomplete. Rosegreen was coming from behind and the ball bounced into his hands. It wasn't meant to be. GEAUX TIGERS
I am with the people that said after what happened with Davey, you in no way can write off JR. If anyone in this country can make a QB and offense work, it is Jimbo. The Oline this year has sucked with pass blocking. Even the Arky game, we gave up a couple sacks. I think are WR's are not as good as people are saying. I mean Doucet has dropped some very catchable long balls that soemone as athletic as he is should make. Michael Clayton made most of those tough catches as a frosh. What does worry me is that Russell is very inaccurate and tends to submarine some balls. I don't know if that is correctable b/c I have never coached QB's. Randall never got consistent accuracy after all this time. It is worrisome since Clausen has generally played better than JR in his time at QB and so did Leak as a frosh, but I still believe JR will be good.
Those fans who want to write off Russell are probably the same ones who said he should have started ahead of Mauck as a true freshman ... and said he would start ahead of Randall this year. They also said Russell was going to bolt for the NFL after a couple of years. Now they are talking about Perrilloux coming in and starting as a true freshman. And should he come to LSU, they will hype him up like they did Russell. What do fans know...
I haven't given up hope on JR. But JR isn't Rohan Davey for all you folks comparing him to Rohan. The doesn't mean he is better or worse, but just different. He has had substantial playing time. I would imagine coach Saban will open up the job next year to whoever practices the best, shows the best work ethic and steps up as a leader. Same thing he tried to do this year. Who will that be? I have no clue. None of you do either. Well ok you can probably narrow it down to 2 or 3 people, beyond that, you'd have to ask coaches and I bet they aren't 100% certain. I agree with TE this poll was NOT worded correctly, that's why I didnt vote. Do you work with JR on his game, execution and WORK ETHICS....... yes Do you give up on JR......NO Do you groom a new QB...... Yes, you'd do that anyway. I bet if you asked CNS that's what he'd say. always keep your options open, this isn't Pee Wee football. there is No correct answer to this poll.
I didn't vote, because JR's future is entirely up to him. He has ability, no doubt about it. He needs to improve a whole heck of a lot, no doubt about that either. If he wants it bad enough he will do what it takes to become a better QB, both physically and mentally. The big question is will he do just enough to try to stay ahead of Flynn and whoever else is after the job, or will he make the commitment to become the best QB he can possibly be. Only he knows the answer.
I can't believe that there were actually 5 boneheads that voted for the first option. This poll is a bit absurd to begin with, how can a freshman be written off? The poll would make more sense if he was a junior or senior playing like he is, but this is his first year as a starter playing in the toughest conference in the nation. Some of you need to google for a clue.
I've had my whole life to do that same things that Russell is trying to do and I still cannot? Can you? If so, step up sonny and give it a shot. Russell will be fine in a couple of years and if he doesn't step up, then Flynn or someone playing HS ball right now will.
exactly as said above. its up to him. similar to someone asking if your teenager is hopeless and has no future, its entirely up to the individual, not anyone else yet you can encourage them in a support role. you wouldn't give up on your own kid so its a very similar situation imo since he chose to come here . what bothers me most is his seemingly lack of competitive desire. of course i know he is a kid but I am not sure i can recall a successful qb that was smiling and laughing it up while benched. I'm basically making an observation as an onlooker and could be dead wrong but that is the one thing that bothers me most. If he was hungry he would be putting in the time and effort and want to be in the game at all costs. maybe next year he will assume the role yet I am not sure what leadership qualities he has that is needed for someone playing that position. Its all going to be handed to him if he wants it. the position is ripe for the picking. all he has to do is want it.
I was asking Vincent4Heisman in particular because he seems to be practically writing JR off yet JV has been struggling just as much. The irony is that his name says "Vincent for Heisman".
