Was that the Southern Miss/Cal game? Reports out of Hattiesburg indicate that the weather there is fine and the game could be played without any problems. The perils of cancelling a game before you know the extent of the damage. I'm glad AU has sense enough to have all the facts before making the call.
Bower was pretty pissed about that one being cancelled. Apparently the Cal administration decided on Monday or Tuesday to cancel the game without even talking to S. Miss first. I guess we're fortunate that the Auburn and LSU admins are keeping in touch with each other on it instead of running off half-cocked based on very preliminary info.
First let me say that I am in favor of playing this weekend if possible. But, any Thursday night game scheduled to take place anywhere from Baton Rouge to Georgia should have been cancelled since there was a definite possiblity of the storm going directly over any of those places. Too great a risk to have a game scheduled for tonight. Just think what a parking lot full of RVs looks like now in Mobile?
I agree that in that particular instance (a Thursday game, a storm landing on Wed/Thurs) that cancelling was the right thing to do at the time. I was analogizing their situation with ours, however, and saying that, given our circumstances (Saturday game, storm projected to be long gone), that AU is doing the right thing by waiting to assess the extent of the damage before making a decision.
It was a no-brainer Cal ain't afraid of USM ... and will stomp the **** outta them when they play. Nebraska, Mizzou and the rest outside of OU aren't too hot ... Watch Cal beat or take USC to the wire ... :thumb: and cover most point spreads this season
