I am not the one trying to be complicated. You are the one trying to pull a little double speak. So let me try this again...

    1. You trust Saban to do what is best for the team.
    2. In your opinion, Saban is starting someone that does not give us the best chance to win

    Therefore

    3. What is best for the team is to start someone that does not give us the best chance to win.

    Sounds simple to me.

So let's leave that simple concept and try that simple question again. Either you think Saban is wrong for starting MR or you think he is right. Which is it? I am pretty sure that your answer is that it is your opinion that he is wrong. That is fine, I would respect that if that was what you were trying to say. Just don't try to sugar coat it.

Just finished up 18 months in Iraq and am back training new recruits in a specific division. I am basically done by original service but will report back in several months for more training back in Baghdad.

Saban may be starting Randall not because he gives us the best chance to win out of the two qbs, but cause it takes the pressure off of the rookie knowing he doesn't have to start.

Wow, are you really this slow or are you just high on medication?

Ok, this is real simple, even for those that rode in on the short bus (mark):

If you ask me who I think gives us the best chance to win at qb...my answer will be RUSSELL.

Now if Saban feels it necessary to start Randall(like he's been doing), then put Russell in, then I have full faith that he knows what he's doing. DO YOU GET IT NOW?

IN MY OPINION, RUSSELL IS THE QB THAT GIVES US THE BETTER CHANCE TO WIN. You do realize that I'm entitled to one, right?

You see mark, we as LSU fans and Americans have OPINIONS, whether those OPINIONS are right or wrong is up for debate. That's what this board is for. If you think my opinion is wrong then fine, but those of you who offer zero opinons(mark) need to just move on. Maybe Saban thinks my opinion is wrong and that's fine cause I fully trust that he'll do whats best for the team. G-E-T it N-O-W? :dis:

I'll add my $.02 worth: Though I do believe that JR is the better qb, right now I do not believe it is by much. I have absolutely no problem with MR starting and JR coming in off the bench, as long as JR does get some significant PT. For one thing, I trust any decisions made by Saban and his coaches. Further, I believe that it takes some pressure off of JR while it also allows him to watch from the sideline first and talk to his coaches upstairs who can really see what the defense is doing. I believe this is all particularly so and very important in the kid's first conference game and first road game. And, it's not just any conference opponent. It's the Allbarn dam war eagles dam plainmen, dam tigers. The d ones; the sometimes dreaded ones, who are quickly evolving into our biggest rival (if they haven't already), and generally our biggest competition in the West.

And, heck, if we have to have a starter and then a reliever, and then have the other guy come back in to close it, then so be it. This ain't baseball, they can do that!!! :hihi:  :hihi:

    Bubbafong,

I won't debate most of your post cause it's obvious that we see this from two different points of view. I still don't agree that comparing the few minutes Flynn played to the many games Randall played. It's two very different situations. I agree that saying Flynn doesn't have it at this point would be ludicrous to say the least. I don't think it's the same as saying Randall doesn't have it at this point. Flynn played only a few downs and Randall played many games, there's a huge difference. One can certainly gather a more accurate assessment from 8 games as opposed to a few downs. So I still think your example of Flynn is poor. I will just agree to disagree.

As I recall, after a couple of penalties, OSU had first down and 35 to go from midfield and they converted the first down and continued to march all the way from there to the end zone. So, I wouldn't say that Green handed them any points. The defense has to share some culpability for that 7 points (it was actually 6 points) as they allowed OSU to do it. And, it's not as if they had just been on the field and were tired. It was the beginning of the game. Granted, the kick returner put the defense in a bad spot. But the defense then got breaks with the penalties, but failed to do their job - which should have been, following the penalty, to hold them to a FG try. I do have to give a lot of credit to OSU's play selection and , though. They really took advantage of the field conditions on that first series of the season. And they were pretty fired up. I'm not certain that LSU would have stopped them had they had to go 70 or 80 yards on that first possession.

Saban just realizes that JR is going to be facing some much better defensive units.

I have aways felt that Saban seems to deal with most things starting from a defensive perspective.

That was especially true when LSU dismantled Illinois in the Sugar Bowl a few years ago.

    So...

Saban wants him to start thinking about how to systematically beat a defense rather than to just execute offensive plays from the hip.
