ISLSTL: I really don't care which QB gets the start. If it's Russell, I'm happy. If it's Randall, I don't mind that either. I know Saban wants to win the game worse than we do so I'll trust his judgement here. I don't have the "hard on" that you do for Russell. He's a tremendous talent with huge upside and I'm excited about the future with him, but right here, right now, I want to win the Auburn game. Randall did not look bad against ASU. Referring back to the original post in this thread, apparently Saban is more comfortable starting the game with the QB who has a better grasp of his offense over the one with more talent who is still a young wild colt. Why can't you see that? Why do you continue to bash Randall at every opportunity when he hasn't done anything to deserve it. I watched the Cox replay, specifically with your numerous Randall rants in mind, islstl, and frankly, I did not see any basis for your continued trashing of the young man. Randall performed quite capably against ASU, as did Russell. Frankly, I wish you'd just shut up about it. Your feelings are quite well known and it's getting extremely tiring. I'm sure glad you are not a Kerry supporter.
Starting Randall is the smart thing to do. You throw Russell out there in that environment for the first time, with the pressure on him, no telling what will happen. If Randall is ineffective then put in Russell. Russell is a guy who can come of the bench and make plays and lead a comeback and win a game for you. Randall is a guy who must play smart and not do things to lose the game to be effective, like Mauck did. I don't think he can come off the bench and lead a comeback if needed. Just my opinion. Saban had a pretty quick hook in the OSU game, which I thought was good. I thought he'd probably stick with Randall a couple of series in the 2nd half. My thoughts, Randall is the right guy to start, but I don't think he can get it done. I expect to see Russell in by sometime in the second quarter. Randall hasn't shown me anything against quality competition yet, but I'd love for him to prove me wrong Saturday. Ark. St. is one thing, Auburn, is another story.
I think the jury is still out on whether "Randall just doesn't have it" or not, but his time to prove it is running short. IMO it's time to get Russell ready but I'm not quite ready to call Randall a bust just yet. This weekend will tell us all we need to know about who is ready and who is not.
of course not. the coaches still know MR has some game, they're simply wondering if he can do it when the pressure is on. too many people think its an either, or situation. Its not going to be. It will be both these guys from here out more than likely and the MR detractors will hang on every error he makes to say they were right and every good play JR makes to pump him up more. But in all probability....we have a 2 headed monster this entire year.
What ever gets the job done. If we do end up with a two headed monster that probably means that both QB's are doing good. If both should happen to play poorly I would think Saban would try to develope the younger guy.
its either both younger guys and MR on the bench or simply MR and JR. Flynn won't fit in the picture minus injury to someone or a total collapse and a writeoff by the coaches of MR.
I personally am not the kind of person that will hang on every mistake that Randall makes, just for the sake of saying I was right. I hope to God that Randall does well if given the start. I want what's best for the team. I don't have it out for Randall and I certainly don't get joy out of seeing him fail. In fact I rather feel sorry for the guy everytime they show him sitting the sidelines. I have no problem with admitting that Randall looked good against ASU, but we are talking about ASU here. I hope with Randall the best in whatever he does (including playing qb for LSU) but I just think that Russell gives us the best chance to win. I just wanna know how anyone can say the Russell doesn't give us the best chance to win. We went the whole first half of the OSU game without scoring a single point, not even looking good on offense. Russell is put in and struggles at first, but he scores two touchdowns. Randall had the whole first half to score a td and couldn't. Not to mention Russell did this with way less experience. I trust Saban to do what is right for our team, but I am also free to express my opinion on who I think is the better qb. :geaux:
Those two quotes were made for eachother. :hihi: BTW, that was not a slam on Randall, it's simply my opinion.
I think that Saban qualifies as someone who would say that starting Russell doesn't give us the best chance to win. Which is it??? Do you trust Saban or not??? No matter how you try to spin it, you can't have it both ways. Either you think Saban is wrong for starting MR or you think he is right. Which is it.
