if the oregon state kicker kicks it up the middle it may have been blocked, webster spears and williams had a big push, it may have and it may not have been blocked, but it would have been close had he kicked it down the middle

One other thing that no one brings up is that LSU missed 2 very makable FGs. So you can't simply say that if they make the XPs, they win it. Give us our 2 FGs, give them their 2 XPs (in regulation), and the final score would have been 20-17, LSU.

OSU running the clock out with a minute to go in the first half inside LSU territory was chicken sh!t on their part (head coach). OSU deserved to lose on that alone.

One other thing I noticed on the replay version at 3 in the AM was that Livings moved early on the snap on the 2 point conversion that tied it up. Thank goodness they did not catch it. Not sure if anyone else noticed it.

The OSU kickoff returner also was rewarded a touchback when it should have been a safety. This is exactly why you can't say "if they make 3 EPs they win." Both teams missed oppurtunity after oppurtunity. How many sure interceptions did we drop????

ESPN didn't catch this........but in OT.....the TE or Receiver or whoever it was that went up the middle for the Touchdown.......didn't catch the ball!!!

I was at a perfect angle to see.....and he did not have a full grasp on the ball before it hit the ground..........If that was called right the Xtra point doesn't even matter!

That's a good point. I wish I would have remembered that as I sent an email off to a columnist in Portland [email protected] . Here is the text of my message:

    Brian,

I read your column this morning. I know you are trying to cheer up Beaver Nation, but let's not discount the fact that LSU also had several opportunities to take control of this game much earlier on and blow the Beavers out. LSU had a 57-yard TD run called back because of a motion penalty. LSU missed two FGs. LSU blew a sure 4th quarter TD when a cold QB came back into the game to run a 4th and goal play. LSU had a sure pic with a clear path to the end-zone. That's a potential 27 points I count right there. On the other hand, you claim that OSU had a sure TD with an interception, but that the defender slipped. Plus there were three missed PATs. That's 10 points that I count that OSU possibly could have had. What's the point of all of this? Just that this is the nature of football. OSU did not dominate this game. At times, they looked to be the better team, but at other times, they clearly weren't. LSU did what it had to do to win this game. OSU could have put the game away with one first down late in the 4th. They didn't. That's the game. LSU's defense at that point was swarming as the field was drying. Speed was coming into play. OSU was wearing out on both sides of the ball, but particularly on D. This is why they play the games. It was a valliant effort by OSU, but not one in which one can say that OSU was clearly the better team. OSU now has to flush this loss and get ready for their next opponent. If they don't deal with this loss correctly, it could be another long night for them next weekend, and could end up being a long season. And by no means is a successful season guaranteed for LSU, either. We understand what our weaknesses are coming out of this game. We have issues on the o-line, at QB, and even WR. Teams are going to stack the box until we can get these issues addressed. There is no guarantee that we return to the SEC Championship Game. We have a lot of work to do (did you hear Saban?). We acknowledge this. This is what makes our football program one of the best in the country.

    Regards,

you cant really play the "if this small difference had happened" game. too many factors on both sides at all times. i never buy that argument. what if the guy does make some of the extra points, so what? the game could have been different in countless ways.

    elementary chaos theory!

Another interesting point is that at 3:20 or so left in the game when we went for it on 4th down (and Russell over threw Green). Had they made the earlier extra points, we would have kicked a field goal on that drive. Then we would have come back and won it in regular time instead of OT.

That is just one in a myriad of scenarios that would have made the game different if they would have made their extra points. So arguing or moaning about it is useless.
