A couple of weeks ago, some of us got into a somewhat heated thread about fan behavior. Near the end of that I pledged to meet some folks (Brett and others) half way and do what I could on my part to improve things. Last night I had the opportunity to discuss this with Coach Tuberville one-on-one in privacy. I expressed to him my concern about the deterioration of things on both sides and the growing hatred on some fans' part. TT said he was aware of it, said there had been some unfortunate incidents, but agreed it was something to put behind us. He will talk to Coach Saban (and others at Auburn) and see if they can do anything together to get things on a more even keel. TT clearly respects Coach Saban and LSU. He said it's his goal to get our program where LSU is now. I think that's a damn nice compliment. I know most of you don't like TT but I wish all of you could meet him and talk to him in person. I have known all the Auburn HCs for a long time and TT is the nicest guy we have had since Coach Jordan. Anyhow, I kept my part of our bargain and will continue to do everything I can to make things better. Besides I can't hate two schools(takes too much energy) and I want to focus all my "hate" on the bammers.

I have always believed that 95% of this animosity stems from one game in 2001. There was no trouble in 2002 or 2003. Some Auburn team members foolishly did unsportsmanlike things in that game that incited the LSU home crowd, some of whom overreacted and foolishly took it out on innocent Auburn fans after the game.

Since then it has been a comedy of exaggerations about how heinous and disrespectful the AU team conduct was. This has been countered by outrageous, unbelieveable claims about LSU fan conduct from Auburn fans. Now Internet geeks who weren't even there regularly post urban myths about the whole matter as if it were all true.

You don't want to hear about smoking cigars in a rivals stadium, jumping on logo's and fighting with bandsmen. We are way tired of hearing about 100 cars that were burned, fans fearing for their lives, grandmothers peeing off the upper deck and policemen beating up little children. Right now I think people have largely gotten over the 2001 game and current bad feelings are more about the venom coming from the message boards.

LSU and Auburn have to play each other every year. We don't need this crap. But for every reasonble, serious AU and LSU fan on the Internet, There are three teenagers hiding behind their keyboards that are only interested in smack talk and perpetuating the myths. Good luck reaching those nimrods. But I applaud your effort. :champs:

I'm not a fist fighter but i think the newly developed hate-fest makes the whole series pretty damn fun. The problem is that people love their team so much and take a loss so personal, that a little innocent ragging from an opposing team's fans can turn into something nasty quickly. Although it's against my nature, my new philosophy is to avoid talking crap to opposing fans even if they start it. It's not worth a trip to the paddy wagon and it improves LSU's image to have humble fans who can be good losers and good winners.

I appreciate your concern, but hatred for other schools makes a rivalry great. look at Ohio St and Michigan, or Florida/Florida St, and Miami, UT and OU. Even people who are not affiliated with those schools watch those games.

LSU and Auburn need a good rivalry IMO.....but can do with out the physical and verbal hostilities.

Hey, I applaud your efforts, but I don't see anything changing soon.

This is going to continue to be intense because, for the forseeable future, LSU and Auburn are the two best teams in the West. This has kind of become the way the Florida-Tennessee rivalry is (or was, when Spurrier was around).

Add to this the fact that LSU really has no "natural" rivals of note (others just aren't competitive enough, year to year, to be real rivals anymore), and Auburn will continue to serve as a de facto "rival" for LSU.

Sorry, you're just gonna have to share that hatred among more than one rival!

I don't even belong to the Auburn Insiders board because it so typical of the crappy school internet boards. I do post on War Eagle Nation, along with several of you here). There are too may people on these boards full of what I call the Jekyll-Hyde syndrome. They are basicly nice people who sit down behing a computer and turn into anonymous A-holes. Of course there's the other type I guess who are nice on the internet but a-holes in real life
(like me  ). But to answer your question, yes I did post this on the WEN board.
