Texas Tech's Tommy Tuberville has agreed to become Cincinnati's next football coach.

    COACHING CAROUSEL

Pink slips have been handed out while other coaches have traded up. See who's been canned and who's stepping in

The agreement came one day after Butch Jones left to become Tennessee's next football coach, ending a week of uncertainty for the Bearcats (9-3). Cincinnati has won a share of four of the last five Big East titles and will play in the Belk Bowl.
Tuberville resigned as Texas Tech's coach on Saturday afternoon and was expected to be introduced at Cincinnati later in the day after a basketball game.
Tuberville takes over a program that has been a stepping stone job for the last three head coaches. Mark Dantonio, Brian Kelly and Jones all left after three years for bigger programs - Michigan State, Notre Dame and Tennesse
  2. A suprise indeed.
  3. Wow, thats a real slap in the face to T Tech when your coach leaves for the Cincy job. Also says a lot about how far Tubbs has fallen when Cincy is seen as a step up for him. Couldn't happen to a better person......unless it was nicky.
  4. Tubbs is a genius at staying one step ahead of being fired. He was on the way up at Ole Miss and stepped up to that Barner job but was on the way out when he jumped to Tech. He just did it again today. Don't know what his new salary is but I bet it is no more and could be less than he received at Tech.
It is better to take a step down and keep your job than to be fired and fall of a cliff.
  5. Tubby was given the option to resign at AU, he didn't leave on his own and didn't have another job. That's just a face saving way of getting fired.
  6. Yes tubb didn't not have a job for a year.... He was doing tv before tt hired him

Now this is a man who hated west texas and the fans did not like him. It was an escape more than anything. He was shooting for one the sec jobs when that didn't happen he took whatever was out there...
  7. Betcha Auburn wishes they'd kept him. At least he kept them somewhat competitive and not his fault he was screwed in '04.
  8. He still did fairly well at TT. It's hard as hell to recruit kids to Lubbock...
  9. Difference is this time he is out of the redneck south. (Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas Tech) Cinci is in the Kentucky/Ohio region so let us observe his success/failure in this conference vs midwestern opposition.
  10. I was stationed at Reese AFB, a few miles W of Lubbock many years ago. It was a great assignment if you liked constant 30 mph winds, tumbleweeds, and watching cotton grow.
