What is sad is that everyone, haters and lovers alike, agrees about what they saw in that game which makes his coaching performance confusing and absurd.
He is quoting me and other members of this forum almost word for word. That is strange, or was it that obvious. He's right this time.
CLM's coaching performance was flat out pathetic. Don't know if you watched the "players video" ... but Blackwell summed up just what CLM was telling them, and what they thought ... and proved how wrong they were! Bama ... sure .. they "liked" to run through you, not around you ... but in the NCG ... they barely ran at all ... they passed ... and passed and passed. Saban proved he was the better coach .. he lost .. time to change game plan. Saban realized .. we're not going to run through the LSU defense, nor are we going to run around them much .. BUT .. we've got to get the ball down field far enough that our FG kickers can make the dang kick. So .. short TE passes, down and outs, etc. These plays work great in a long field, though they become less effective as the secondary becomes compacted. LSU's great defense put the brakes on Bama's runs, just like last time .. hence .. 5 FG in a row ... BUT .. those passes got the kicker close enough to make them. CLM .. otoh .. thought he was still playing the Nov 5th game. .. and LOST big time. Dildo was absolutely correct. The short, fast release pass game .. the same one that Bama was running against LSU is almost unstoppable in a long field ... and Lee is much better at it than JJ. THE BIG QUESTION .. Did CLM learn anything??? Somehow, I doubt it!
Guilbeau is right, I am not going to say "I hate to say it" because after reading him over time the guy is usually right. Look does he have a love affair with Saban - without a doubt but if you look at why he does it makes a lot of sense and he tells you in this article. Saban tells you like it is, you might not like what he says but you get answers. Again you might not like the answers and he might tell you to go f*ck yourself but it is straight talk and you know where you stand. Are there issues with Saban, obviously yes but he pretty much tells you how it is. With Miles everything is this mystery wrapped speech almost like we can't handle the truth so he does not want to tell us the truth. Every once in a while the way he words things is funny but it really get's old. And now I am just plain freaking tired of it. If someone asks you a question, answer the damn question please quit beating around the bush and trying to hide the answer in a riddle. Just be upfront with us, we are not 2 year olds. We might not like the answers but at least we have them. I agree with everything Guilbeau said especially "He'd rather lose doing it his way." That is exactly what Les Miles did to the team that night, lost doing it his way, instead of trusting his players to play the game!!! If he continues to stick his head in the sand because he is afraid to lose the big bad guys are going to keep whacking him in his arse while he can't see what is coming!!!
onceanlsufan - that is what I fear the most from what you said and I think you are right which is "Did CLM learn anything??? Somehow, I doubt it!" To me either he has gotten to big for his britches and has gone all swollen head on us - "meaning he knows everything and no one can tell him what to do." Or, he is just so afraid to lose that he has become a control freak and micro manages everything so much so that he stops his own success. To me that is the only way you can explain our offense in the last 3 games, he is just so pigged headed that he couldn't see JJ was not the answer and to bring in J Lee to mix it up, then go back to JJ if he wanted. The great thing about having 2 senior QB's with contrasting styles is that the opposing team would have to prepare for both which is too hard to do, look at the first game with Bama. But having to prepare for one meant it became so easy to prepare for and easy to stop.
I know .. gilbeau .. or how ever you spell his name .... nailed it. It was CLM, himself, that made the statement about loving the 2QB system ... but we say none of it once he got JJ installed as the starter. I wouldn't think that CLM would have to learn this lesson, it is pretty much common sense .. but a one dimensional offense cannot win the big game. As Gilbeaux said .... JJ will run, JJ will be stopped. End of defensive game plan. And what was so sad, is that CLM didn't have the wisdom to call that bluff. .. he played right into it. I still say he threw the game. There is just no way that team played that badly without some other reason.
It would be like leaving your starter in as he gets shelled in the 7th game of the World Series with a good reliever ready to go. There is no tomorrow, Les. Three quarters of doing nothing right and everything wrong, and you think this guy is poised to break through and lead LSU to two touchdowns?
