Interesting read: Monster LSU-Alabama matchup solidifies two inherent BCS flaws - College Football News | FOX Sports on MSN
An interesting angle the article presents is the scenario where LSU loses close and is given a 2nd chance on a neutral field vs Bama in the BCS CG. Conversely, it may be totally unacceptable to everyone that Bama be given a 2nd chance on a neutral field having already lost to LSU at home.
Im totally against a playoff system or even a rematch. What if each team wins one game? what would it mean? Shouldn't there be a third game for best out of 3?The problem with a rematch with these teams is that they are so close in talent. They could play ten times and each team would win 5. You have one chance to play for it, you bring your A game and see who wins. That is what makes each and every game special.
I think IF lsu loses a close game I could see a possibility of a rematch, simply because of the stregnth of schedule lsu has played, provided Ok state and stanford both have one loss, anyone else I cant see going to the NC game, however if Bama looses a close game I dont think you would see a rematch because 1. bama would have lost at home, 2. Bama's schedule is not as impressive as LSU's. Something else that will also have a big bearing on any possible rematch is what penn state does from here on out, penn state finishes with just one loss, bama may have a shot at a rematch.....but penn state finishes with 2 or more losses, bama has no shot at a rematch.
The only argument I would have against this is if: 1. OK state has a loss 2. Stanford also has a loss 3. Penn State finishes 11-1(which I dont see) but if all three of those things happen I could see where bama would deserve a rematch.
There is not going to be any rematch. The winner will play in the BCSNC and the loser will play in the Sugar Bowl. They could still end up #1 and #2 on the final polls, but only because someone else lost the BCSNC and dropped down the list.
I agree. I like things the way they are. Whichever team wins is the winner, and shouldn't have to play the other team again. If LSU wins the division and goes to Atlanta, I consider the season a success (not that anything less isn't, necessarily). Everything else is ancillary. A national championship without an SEC championship seems kind of hollow to me.
I am all for an 8 team playoff. Every other major college sport uses a tournament to crown a champion, and it works just fine.
