There are some that still believe this Oregon team is a powerhouse, which IMO plays to LSU's favor Oregon Ducks - College Football Nation Blog - ESPN The message sent Tuesday by pollsters was clear: Don't give fans major nonconference games to look forward to in season openers. Pollsters killed Oregon, dropping it from No. 3 to 13th in the AP poll and 14th in the coaches' poll. Of course, nearly all of those 12 or 13 teams ahead of Oregon would be underdogs if they played the Ducks this weekend, but pollsters sent a clear message: Don't risk losing by playing marquee nonconference foes. If you are wondering, I ranked the Ducks eighth in our latest Power Rankings, where the Ducks only fell to 10th. The only other ranked Pac-12 team in the AP poll is Stanford at No. 6. USC, 25th last week, dropped out of the poll, ending up 28th among the teams getting votes. That's a familiar pattern: Pollsters love to punish USC for not winning pretty. Arizona State was 26th, as it was placed among teams getting votes. Utah and Arizona also received AP votes. In the coaches' poll, Stanford also was sixth. Arizona State was 23rd. Utah was 29th among other teams getting votes. Arizona, Washington and Utah also got votes in the coaches' poll. The Sun Devils play Missouri on Friday. The Tigers are 21st for the AP and 19th for the coaches. The Wildcats play Oklahoma State on Thursday. The Cowboys are ninth for the AP and seventh with the coaches. Oregon State is at Wisconsin on Saturday. The Badgers are No. 8 for the AP and No.9 with the coaches.
Actually, the beginning of the season is exactly when you want to play a big nonconference game. More time to overcome the effects of a loss.
I didnt think about this before, but is dropping Oregon so low in the polls due to a lack of respect for LSU?
if nick saban was the coach of the defense that schooled oregon saturday, LSU would be ranked #1. that is inarguable. sure theres lot of bias in media polls as its all perception. Les is continually under the radar and it suits me just fine. is this hack really arguing USC gets unfairly ranked by his media cohorts? what a ****ing joke. let me guess, he writes for an LA rag in his spare time?
Let's hope Oregon keeps getting all the "love" they don't deserve throughout this entire season. We need their BCS strength of Schedule bonus points.
Depends on who the media darling is at any point in time. Haven't you heard? Boise might as well be penciled into the BCSNC game right now after beating the #17 team in their opener. :rolleye33:
You know thats true, the team was still in Georgia and people were trying to divert them to New Orleans. Kind of feels like when Obama got the Nobel Peace prize his first week in office.
You could play it many ways because it could show that there is a lot of respect for LSU beating down Oregon. Or that the media thought Oregon was overrated to begin with. I think it's a combo of both and regardless of that, we are now the media darling because of it.
Actually, he was a writer for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer before joining up with ESPN.com as the Pac10 beat writer.
The reason they dropped so far wasn't because they lost but how they lost. This duck team has been marketed and advertised by many (even after getting beat by Auburn) as an elite team and their "blur" offense is unstoppable and all of that was going to be proven Saturday. When that didn't happen, not only didn't it happen but they got their duck hides monkey raped or should I say tiger raped in front of God and the rest of the college football world. They didn't just get beat they got dominated. They is why they dropped so far.
