I use to live on the Ark/La border and my friends went crazy when Ark joined the SEC. The hate LSU because Ark is all the have in that backwood state. Expectations are running so high in pigville, even the loss of Knile Davis hasn't dampened spirits. I'm guessing last year's BCS invite has convinced all of hognation they have arrived and share common ground with the Alabama's and LSU's of the football world. I think they are a tough out, but it would be good to remember what division they reside in.
Arkansas was a very good program before they entered the SEC. They had a great history in the old SWC, winning 13 conference chamionships, (but no national championships). They thought that when they entered the SEC they would be able to continue to win championships. Of course, they have not, and I do not think they will in my lifetime. They are unable to recruit at the level of other SEC teams. They are one of those programs who have a great fan base, a great history, but are unable to make it to the elite level.
Like Spurrier said "If the other team likes you, you probably ain't beating them very often." Bama fans loved coming to LSU and hanging with LSU fans in the 70's, the were beating our asses every year. Now there's a little more animosity from some (not all) of em. But whether they admit it or not, they respect us.
I think its great they are excited about their team. That's what makes the SEC the best conference. And to be fair Arkansas did take a HUGE step forward in making it to a BCS game for the first time. Yes, they pee'd their pants on the big stage but they got there. They now know what its like and I'd assume if they get there again they won't be as "shell shocked". They are a legit team with a very legit offense, and if Petrino can find a defense that even resembles a SEC defense I don't see any reason why they can't make a run for another BCS game.
They hate us the same as we hate them! All SEC teams hate each other while in conference play but let the bowl season roll around and most all of us will pull for the SEC team like it was our own. That is why I love the SEC and football in the SOUTH!!:tigereye: Now if it would just cool off so we can break out the bourbon!!!!!:thumb:
