Just curious with all this A&M, Mizzou, etc...banter going on lately. Right now we have 8 conference games (MS, KU, FL, UT, AU, AL, OM, and AR) and 4 out of conference games (ORE, NWSt., WVU, WKU). Would a 8 + 8 East-West split mean that we would only play all 8 West teams and then we could schedule four lighter-weight out of conference teams each year?
Check your math. If there are 8 teams in the West, that's 7 games for us. Even if they bump the conference schedule to 9 games, I think they would have to drop the silly "rival in the other division" arrangement. Otherwise, LSU would play UF every year. The other 7? We play SC, for instance, a home and home in '12 and '13. We wouldn't play them again until 2026.
Nine conference games per year 7 divisional games (3 home/4 away one year then 4 home/3 away next year) 2 interdivisonal games (1 home/1 away each year). Play a home/home series with each opponent then cycle to the next one. (play each east team twice every eight years) 3 OOC games Ten conference games per year 7 divisional games (3 home/4 away one year then 4 home/3 away next year) 3 interdivisonal games (2 home/1 away one year then 1 home/ 2 away next year). Play each opponent 3 years in a row then cycle to the next one. (play each east team three times every eight years) 2 OOC games
LSU Alabama Auburn Texas A&M Arkansas Missouri Ole Miss Miss State Florida Tennessee Florida State South Carolina Georgia Clemson Vanderbilt Kentucky LSU/Texas A&M rivalry gets renewed. Florida/Florida State. Clemson/Georgia, Clemson/South Carolina. Arkansas/Missouri could be a nice rivalry in the future as well.
The "rival from the other division" format is completely inequitable and served no purpose other than to keep the jackwads at Alabama happy. Before it was created, Florida was no more our "rival" than Tennessee or Georgia. They should junk it once and for all.
