Idle speculation - would Jefferson be better today if LSU played one or two early "gimme" games

Just killing time before the weekend... I wonder if Jefferson's confidence would have been boosted considerably had LSU opened with a game or two against the likes of McNeese, ULM, etc.

 

Not if he played the same as he had.

 

Yeah, that's a given... I should have expanded a bit more.

If LSU had opened up the season against a couple of lesser talented opponents, and due to that the offense had more success than they've had against the opponents they've actually played, would he be playing better by this point in the season?

Just wondering how much of it is a confidence issue with him, and if early success would have helped...

 

Probably so, but I like the way they line up for the rest of the season.

 

Me too! If (and it's a BIG "if") we can get just a bit better on offense (I'd take "average" - maybe ranked in the 50-60th range of all Div. 1-A teams), we have a good chance to win every game left. But if not, I think we can lose 4 of the remaining games easily.

 

Opening up against a "ChumP" may have made things worse, actually.

To have had a 200 yd./3 TD passing game...would prove meaningless-
with his stats for the last several games. Would that have Swollen
his head the size of Mr. Mallett's- i dunno.

At least he's been consistent. 90 or so yds./game

Another question, wouldn't Lee be better prepared if he gets some snaps before we hit the meat of our schedule? (Fla, Bama, Au)

No matter how JJ plays, there were oppurtunities to work Lee in, because our defense has been pretty much controling the last 3 games.

 

He's not a first year starter. Many of his issues are not in need of a tuning up, he simply doesn't have 'em.

 

I say no because Jefferson looked pretty good against UNC. He has seemingly regressed each week.

UNC - 15-21 for 151 yards, 2 TDs, Long of 51 yards, 0 INTs, sacked once
Vandy - 8-20 for 96 yards, 0 TDs, Long of 24 yards, 1 INT, sacked once
MSU - 10-16 for 97 yards, 0 TDs, Long of 20 yards, 0 INTs, sacked once
WV - 14-22 for 75 yards, 0 TDs, Long of 20 yards, 2 INTs, sacked twice


Overall - 47-79 (59.5%), 419 yards (5.3 yards per attempt), 2 TDs, 3 INTs, 5 sacks
