My dad talked to a game warden. Apparently an oystermen had been collecting oil from the gulf and dumping it on his beds in, and around Bayou Barre so he could make claims against BP. Hopefully that is what that is.

Here is a link to a Wall Street Journal article about the eleven men who died and what the last moments of life on that rig were like. It's pretty riveting especially when you take into account that the fire happened at night. At the bottom of the article are pictures of the eleven men who died.

I know wholesale cost of oysters have gone from $48 a gallon to $104 in the last month.

well, all of Lake Barre has been closed due to confirmed reports of oil.

draw a line from just south of the center of little lake due west until you get to the Pointe-Aux-Chenes Rd / Hwy 55 intersection.
everything south of that is closed as of Friday.

It appears Bayou Terrebonne in the border for area west of here (not sure if Bayou is closed or open, assuming closed).
Somehere around Bush Canal is where the line heads due west again to Bayou Grand Caillou, closing off all of Lake Pelto, and essentially all of Cocodrie and Robinson Canal areas.

Map is too sh!tty to tell if Lake Boudreaux is still open or not.

I read that article. The men on the drill floor literally died trying to prevent what happened once it was evident what was happening. They weren't running for cover. However, given the chain of events that were occurring, unbeknownst to them, they never had a chance to survive that situation. The Bible says that the greatest thing thing you can do is lay down your life for your brother. Thats just what these men did. All the clean up and top kills will never bring them back and no amount of money can ever adequately compensate their families for the loss of their precious lives.

I didn't want to hear that. I was a tad bit more optimistic when my dad gave me the news.
