That is SICKENING! Where is the army of BP workers in that video? Shouldnt there be clean up crews as far as the eye can see working on that sludge?

    my (admittedly biased) opinion.
nobody gives a sh!t about lower Terrebonne Parish.

hell, we can't get people in Houma to care about the bayous, so I don't expect anyone from the outside to give a damn either.

When we try to get funding for flood protection, it gets shut down.
But somehow a new levee got built in East Houma late last year, early this year.

We try tried to get our levee fixed after Hurricane Lili (it was intentionally busted to let flood waters out), but due to "red tape", it didn't happen until after a thunderstorm flooded half the town again.

People have been begging for decades to get a flood gate put on the south end of the Navigational canal down Dularge, but the funding "wasn't there"
Yet the parish somehow found $18 million for a Civic center that doesn't draw near as many acts as it was was supposed to when they built it.
They also spent another $4 mil renovated the offices of Parish government officials.
They also managed to find enough funding to build a Ginourmous new library.
I got nothing against new libraries, but this one went a little overboard.

This has been going on for as long as I can remember, and according to my dad, back in his youth as well.

She stated that it was safe in 2006 and recently she stated that it's not risk free. I don't see the contradiction because both statements are true. Just because something is safe doesn't mean that there's no chance for disaster. Humans have a tendency of really ****ing things up and I think this entire ordeal stands as an excellent case in point.

Risks are mitigated by processes and equipment that have been proven as safe procedures. Early reports point to gross negligence in procedures as well as preventable equipment failure, both errors made by humans.

Early reports are almost always wrong.

Carville went off on the admin today on GMA. There's probably a video on their website but I don't have time to look it up.

Great article, lays it all out:

BP admits 'crucial error' ahead of blowout
    Transocean points finger at BP

BP told congressional investigators that pressure tests on a drill pipe hours before the deadly explosion that caused the Gulf of Mexico oil leak flagged up a "fundamental mistake," a memo released by congressmen Henry Waxman and Bart Stupak said.

You can bet if California was burning with wildfires, the U S government would send thousands of firegihters and workers to "save" the land of the fruits and nuts (no offense Cali). I guess Obama is paying Louisiana back for the dismall showing he made here when he ran for president. Why don't we have loads of National Guard troops etc. in the marsh helping with the cleanup? I'm afraid this could be the death nell for our coast. We may have open water where most of our marsh is in the areas where the oil ends up.
