As of Sunday night, Los Angeles sports talk shows are saying all USC has to do is simply win next week and it's off to the Sugar Bowl. No mention of LSU nor the SEC Championship Game...!!! Although, as the national news picks up more on the LSU / Georgia game, I don't see how the local Los Angeles talk shows can ignore LSU's chances of overtaking USC. Personally, I think that if LSU wins next week, there is no way the AP and Coaches poles can do anything but vote LSU number 2 by a large margin.
I feel the same way about the poll voters, and the SECCG. I'm in LA as well, and you are right about the talk shows (but to be fair, it has been like that since before the UCLA game). They are certain all USC has to do is beat ORE ST. I don't think it will be that easy for USC with the human voters. I work with a few USC graduates and even they have said that if LSU beats a #5 Georgia, that LSU would have earned the right to play OKLA and would have a good arguement for passing USC. Of course, they are pulling for USC . . . but after all the debates the last few weeks, they think the voters will not ignore all of LSU's games against ranked teams late in the year. ROY, did you go to LSU and move to LA . . . or are you a USC fan?
I was listening to Todd Wright on ESPn talk about how USC fans think there is an Anti-West coast bias against USC. I can't help but think there's an Anti-Southern bias against LSU. Lets face it, we're in the South. We're a school that traditionally is a top twenty five team, but we haven't been big players on the national scale in 15 years. USC and Oklahoma are top five programs all time, people expect them to beat us. We're like the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, while the entire nation is talking about Red Sox vs Cubs, the Devil rays win the World Series. Our coach doesn't have the flashiness of Steve Spurrier or Bobby Bowden, our offense doesn't have the big time player like Micheal Vick or Eric Crouch. We're a team that functions as a team, a lot of great players, but outside of matt Mauck and Micheal Clayton I doubt many folks in the country could name any of them. We aren't the Sexy pick this season, and I'm not complaining about that. If we win the games we play, first Georgia, then Michigan, Florida State, Texas, whomever, NO ONE can ignore the season we've had.
Re: Re: Word from Los Angeles It was the Florida Marlins who won the World Series. The Devilrays finished in last place in the American League East
Re: Re: Re: Word from Los Angeles They should just consolidate the two teams. They both wear teal, they're both less than 10 years old, they're both in Florida. I don't think anyone would notice if they consolidated.
