1. But is the unit attached to anything or is it a stand alone machine? If its attached to anything I'll make a wild guess and say its the part of a car wash that moves back and forth while spraying soap and water.

  2. Do those wheels compress into the frame, does is have a proximity switch?
  3. Not necessarily

It is attached to something. While not part of a car wash, the back and forth is on the right track

    Yes and yes

Note the screw drive in one of the pics
  4. Okay so a ball screw and what looks to be 4 independent motors on the corners with a prox. So that tells me it must float on something (not float as on water) I'm trying to figure those motors/drive belts must be to keep it set in a certain position or distance from something.
  5. I don't suggest it must be in motion, just that if those rollers are feelers, then it must attached to something that moves them. Some kind of actuator for whatever all those belts and servos do.
  6. Sorta kinda, but not really.

    The rollers are feelers.
  7. As to the proximity switch, think more of continuously variable than fixed positions.
  8. Forgot to mention, it is attached to something and is not a stand alone unit.
  9. So a constant motion type of thing
  10. yes
