A lot of people would be dissapointed if we got Fisher, Muschamp or Bobby Williams (especially Williams - look at MSU when he was HC) as head coach. These guys are good assistants but its anybody's guess as to wether they would be good head coaches and this isn't the time to gamble on a coach with all the returning talent we have.

That leads me to believe, that IF INDEED (although very unlikely i think) we do name a coach in the next 24-28 hours, it would be Petrino. Unless there has been alot going on behind closed doors with somebody else and it would come as a total suprise to everyone, ie Nick Saban.

I agree 100%, but I don't see it happening in 24 I think there a at least a couple more interviews to go but I was wrong once before.

If it is next 24 hours, that probably takes out Del Rio. :(

As for Petrino, I don't want him. Look at this game with BSU. Not to take anything away from them, but I don't need these shootouts week in and week out. I've had enough of that with the Saints over the last 5 years, and we see how far that has gotten them. We are still a defensive-minded football team as has been evidenced by our talent on that side of the ball. I don't see us flipping a light switch on and off next season. Maybe I am wrong.

We've got the talent on the offensive side of the ball - some of the highest recruited offensive players in the country (J Russell, X Carter, Doucet). We just haven't produced with it and have rellied on defense to save our a$$es. There would be no switch to flip - merely developing what we already have on offense.

I hear what you are saying, but the way I see it, our D has been DOMINANT, while the O has been efficient, and I am referring mostly to last year's team. While we definitely have talent on the O side of the ball and have more people coming in, we have had major questions at the QB position which remain unresolved. This is a big issue for us. Will Russel come around, or are we going to have to get a guy like Periloux in here and put him out on the field as a freshman? At any rate, I wasn't taking anything away from any part of our team. Personally, I prefer a strong defensive team assuming that there is no perfect team with both a dominant O and D. :)

Well, no disrespect to anyone, but if Saban's so concerned with who we hire, perhaps he should have never left in the first place??? If I leave a job, do you think I'll bash, or tell others that I think they're looking in the wrong place for my replacement???

Yes, he and his STAFF have put together impressive things here, but now that he's not the head coach, he shouldn't be bad-mouthing anything that we do to find his successor.

He should be worrying about putting together a Dolphins staff and let LSU officials worry about putting together an LSU staff. He should have absolutely zero input into who LSU interviews or hires and it is none of his business.

Boy you guys are pissy... The man is trying to help - there's no harm in hearing what he has to say, you don't have to listen if you don't want to and I guarantee that Skip is making this decision regardless of Saban's opinions.

He is not trying to help he is pushing his assistants and thats not like pointing out qualified candidates that LSU overlooked, Skip is aware of who his assistants were. Since he is no longer part of the football program he shouldn't be voicing his opinion about who we should interview or hire. It has nothing to do with what happened last week or how I feel about Saban, you just shouldn't take advice on hiring from someone on their way out(see Arnsparger), and he should respectfully stay out of the situation.
