1. For those on the verge of slashing their wrists because we’re not going to win another NC this year – can you name the last team to win back-to-back NC’s and what years did they do it? My point is it’s virtually impossible to do that anymore.
Last year was special. We had an experienced team and we had a schedule conducive to making a run at the NC. This year’s team is not as good as last year’s. But guess what, NO team this year is as good as last year’s LSU team.
This year’s schedule is very demanding – road games at Auburn, Georgia, Florida and Arkansas – especially with a young team.
Best case scenario LSU goes 9-2. All things considered an 8-3 season has to be considered a good one. A 7-4 season IMO is most likely.
  2. You were supposed to ask SabanFan for permission to title your thread in this manner.

Look for a call from one of his lawyers.
  3. Nebraska in 94 and 95, and amazingly again in 97 (w/ Michigan).
  4. You do bring up a good point. If you look at probably the most dominant college football team in any 10 year period, the Miami Hurricanes could not pull off the feat of back to back titles.

Miami won in 83, 87, 89 and 91. From 83 thru 92, this team could have won 6 or 7 titles.

    It just isn't that easy.
  5. You do make a point, but I fear it's not as strong as you think it is.

If Ohio State beats Michigan last year, they would have played for 2 in a row vs USC in the Sugar Bowl.

Spaking of OSU, the team *they* beat in 2002--Miami--was one bad call by a ref in the Fiesta Bowl from winning two in a row.

Also, if USC wins this Saturday, they sure look set for a back to back run to Miami.
  6. I won't be mad if LSU wins NCs every other year.

LSU should have a decent chance at it next year, but in 2 years, will simply dominate.
  7. Amen
  8. Relax tho. No way will they win it, if they do go.
  9. OR... If they do win maybe some other team will steal their thunder and claim to be the REAL National Champions. Wouldn't that be nice?
  10. I've been thinking about this kind of thing myself

Its getting harder for the college powerhouses to stay on top year after year no matter who the coaches are.
Look at some of the Legends out there:
    1) Joe Pa--Penn St, when was the last time they've done anything?
    2) Bobby Bowden--Fla St a powerhouse that has struggled in recent years.

    Then you have Nebraska,Michigan,Miami,Notre Dame,USC,Florida.
Anybody remember what powerhouses some of these teams were for about 5 to 10 years at a time?
It doesn't happen quite as often anymore seems like and there seems to be more parity in college sports for some reason between the Houstons, Fresno States, Marshalls, etc.
Bottomline is there seems to be more parity in college sports than there use to be.
These teams can stick around and play with the big boys compared to the way things were a few years back.

LSU will have down years just like everyone else no matter how good we were last year or how good we are suppose to be this year.
I'll take a down year with 2 or 3 loses anyday compared to a good year with the same record under Dinardo or any coach of the LSU past!
