Or maybe because Mitch McConnell doesnt get anything done? I mean if the GOP is going to fight Trump, you think Trump is the type to just sit there and take it like Obama did?

An African county calls itself the Democratic Republic of Congo doesn't mean it is truly democratic. Just because this shit bird got a bunch of people to vote for him under the flag of the republican party doesn't mean shit.

Brooks' article (despite exhibiting the usual Boomer narcissism and self-reference) might be onto something. His labels are wrong (it's materialist rather than meritocratic), and he's too stuck on his analogy with the 60s, but it is a big cultural break.

The key to really thinking about it is to imagine what would be happening had Trump lost (his victory in the swing states was relatively narrow). This is something almost no one has done, and Brooks skips out too. But had Trump lost, there would still be a great deal of energy building toward this cultural break. While Trump's election wasn't inevitable, it could only have entered into the realm of the possible due to this tremendous energy that was generated from what is essentially a class conflict.

Interesting ideas in this article. Does Trump understand what he's doing or acting on instinct alone? Brooks seems to suggest both are possible.
BTW I agree with your comment on the narcissism of my generation....boomers.
