Snipe are most often found in fields that are plowed and have water puddles.
Woodcock, well, they like the woods. They like to live on the edge of treelines, etc. They move right at dusk when you mainly see silhouettes. We used to kill some at dark-thirty when shooting wood ducks on a roost.

 

Then you've never seen a snipe, looks like a little woodcock
