1. Toll roads are usually an indication of poor urban sprawl planning or an inability to efficiently manage government infrastructure. 2 years ago, Los Angeles instituted a toll road on the 110 Harbor Freeway. It's been around for decades and maintenance is rare. It is the main/only method of express travel between the South Bay (wealthy/mostly Rep) and downtown. Another indirect redistribution of income to the tune of $1.40/mile in peak.

The 91 freeway between Orange County and Corona/Riverside charges the most ridiculous peak amounts for their express lanes. And it's because they built massive amounts of inexpensive homes in Corona/Riverside but never made adjustments to the highway. People bought out there planning to drive in to North OC for work but now it's an overburdened road in traffic. Driving home eastbound at 3 will cost $10 for 10 miles. Who the hell planned on $200/month? Of course the cost gets defrayed because you can only use the toll if you carpool but still.
  2. No sugar bean, that is a CA problem. Most other places have it done pretty much right. ;)
  3. CA is a phucked up place for trying to hold on to your money. But if toll roads were really done properly, they would cease to exist. Instead they are like vehicle herpes....they never really go away (all credit to Eddie Murphy).

  7. When I would drive north from Wichita Falls on I44, it blew my mind to have to pay tolls on the freaking interstate. Just couldn't wrap my head around that.
