First, I am alumni and fan with with two degrees from this university even though I received my MBA from Florida(which I still hate their fans). I have been going to games since 1981 and probably missed 20 home games since then. I am active member in both TAF and the alumni association, so quit questioning my loyalty, however, I do call like I see it and from what I seen so far this year there some problems with this team from coaches preparing for games to some questionable game day calling. 1. Defense-obviously when you lose lionel turner, webster and travis daniels, you have some holes to feel, however, I will not excuse giving up 456 yards in the air to Arizona State. That was inexcusable. And I am not buying the spin that we played a top 15 team. So does that mean we should give up 450 to florida, alabama, and perhaps auburn(that means we will have one of the worse defenses in the country). If so, we will certainly go 7-4 and that will be ground of firing les Miles and co, will that happen, probably not. We have to quit playing soft zone, and after the state game, it looks like belini has closed that chapter in his play book. Utlize the talent we have on the field. 2. Offense-JR took a big step back in the tenn game, but looks like he took a step forward in the state game. The play calling in the 2nd half of the tenn game was terrible. you do not sit on a 21 point lead against any team in the SEC. But the one bright light in the state game is that the bread and butter fisher offense was effect with a combination of slip and bubble screens, and short passes. That is in fact a bright light, but again it was Miss State and Florida will be our next true test. If you think my posts are negative, am not going to apologize b/s there was nothing really positive to talk about. See I was not an apologist during the dinardo years unlike yourself and I was calling for his head after the 1998 season, curly hallman should of never been hired. I am still little bitter about the hiring of Les Miles, it has carried over into the season and the first two games reiterated the fact why I thought les miles did not deserve to coach a top 5 program. We made a half ass atttempt of grabbing big name coahes like Tedford, Frentz(sp), Del rio and others. The difference between you and I is I expect nothing less than 1 to 3 losses a year especially considering the talent level and potential we have here at lsu. Saban got a mulligan b/c he was in the process of rebuilding our program, but the foundation has been established for miles to reap the benefits and as of now he has not taken that advantage with his stubborn philosophy and his preparations for games have been suspect at best(full contact at practices which saban did not do). You are a homer, I am a realist and I expect to go to a new years day bowl every year hopefully in the position to play for a national title. Saban proved you can do it here. Again, I am not sorry for being a realist.
Actually, most people expected LSU to finish 9-2 this year playing five ranked teams with a new coach and a new defense. preseason consensus poll 9-2 is a good year in almost anybody's book and Miles will have definitely "worked out" with that record. Nick was 8-4 his first year, he worked out.
