Almost everybody is assuming that USC and Texas will win out and play in the Rose Bowl. In this scenario, the only bridesmaid who could end up crying is bama. But what if Cal. should upset USC (they were the last team to beat them)? Assuming bama loses at least one game, this would leave a ton of teams with one loss. Who would then play Texas for the MNC? This scenario would leave 5-6 teams howling rathere than one and could create such a mess for the BCS. Your thoughts?
Assuming all other one loss teams kept winning, it would probably be Miami. They are first in line. Only other possibility would be USC if they didn't fall very far.
I think a number of major conference 1-loss teams could make a case for Pasadena in that scenario, meaning the public/pollsters would take the path of least resistance: an oversimplified assessment of the situation. In other words, it's Miami and all the rest. Miami is a big name, a good team, and their loss came at the start of the season to a good, in-state rival. Neither LSU nor any of the other major 1-time losers such as Penn St., Alabama, etc can make as strong a case, or so the reasoning will go. Still, there is something patently unfair/absurd about a system in which multiple major conference teams can win over 90% of their games and not even sniff the national title game due to lack of a playoff system.
USC or Miami would be the pretty far ahead of any other 1 loss team in the BCS standings....But the BCS committee would be upset with this set of circumstances
It would be Miami if they win the rest of their games. Otherwise, it would be LSU (if we win the rest of our games) or USC, depending on how far USC drops after their loss.
If USC and Texas both lost and we beat bama, USC and Texas would still be in the championship game... definately USC at least...
It depends on who they lose to. If UT loses to Kansas this week, that would be a major blow in the USA/Harris polls, dropping them to no better than 3rd in the BCS. If they lose to a high ranked Colorado team in the Big-12 championship game, then it's a fight for the 3rd spot with Miami. Same for USC, if they lose to UCLA or Cal, then they would still be in the top 2 in the BCS, since USA/Harris would not penalize them all that much for the loss, especially if it's a really close game decided in the last minutes.
