1. I'm going to brag a little. And demonstrate I'm getting older than dirt.

I lived to two houses from Marcia Ball and her Dad was my Little League baseball coach.

I went through grades 1 - 12 and played HS football with the lead singer for Toto.

Spent many a night listening to GG Shin & The Boogie Kings.

Shared a beverage with a future Super Bowl winning coach for the Cowboys.

Other than that, a rather uneventful upbringing.
  2. That is a great tune, haven't heard it in awhile, used to be this local legend Greg Futch who used to play that song in bars around Lafayette, we used to sneak in places in HS to watch him play......but anyway Mr. Gilmour isn't going to be walking down the runway doing any fashion shows anytime either, he looks like the same basketball is stuck in his neck or he has no neck. :)

  5. Thanks man. Appreciate the links. I wish I had a dollar for everytime I heard The Harlem Shuffle. The thing that stood out about The Boogie Kings was they had a hell of a brass session. Trumpets, trombones, everything. They had a sound of their own. Besides GG they had anotherr vocalist whose name escapes me. I guess I could Google it.

I remember Marcia taking piano lessons as a kid, but I can't say that I ever heard her sing.

And here's a tune from an old high school buddy.

ETA: Jerry "Count" Jackson was the other vocalist.
  6. I never listened to Toto but I thought they were Japanese
  7. I was in the Air Force in 1978 and was going to school in Biloxi MS. I heard the song on the radio several times and I kept telling myself, damn that voice sounds familiar. I don't think I had seen or heard from Bobby since we graduated in 1965 so I had no idea what he was doing. I talked to an old HS buddy a couple of weeks ago and he said he's still touring. I hope he's kicked the "habit".
  8. Pops!!! I freaking LOVE the Boogie Kings. Rainbow '65 is still one of my favorite songs of all time. It was Jerry "Count" Jackson and not GG Shin but still the kings. Damn those dudes could groove. That is what you call belt buckle polishing music.

You know, my poor mom (rip) she did a lot of things wrong when it came to me. Some of it her fault, some of it mine, but she damn sure taught me what good music sounds like and for that I will be forever grateful.
  9. For a while it was GG Shin, Jerry Count Jackson and the Roller Coasters.

Do you remember when Big Luther Kent called himself The Dynamic Duke Royal?
