I'm not a Jesse Jackson fan (in fact why did he have to go on camera the moment he got here?), but he does have experience with situations like this in many varied locations, his input can only help.

I've tried to defend Blanco on one thread, Rev. Jackson on another, anyone else ya'll want to jump on. Fmr Pres Clinton was at a press conference with Pres Bush earlier. I know there have to be some Clinton bashers in here. :)

Dude, I'm pretty much sure that it won't hurt if this is a "political" thread since the title directly refers to Rev Jackson, but you don't have to agree with everyone. No one makes good decisions, we're human. Some people do seem to make idiotic decisions and that is where the political hostility stems from. I'll admit that I didn't vote for Blanco, I didn't vote for Bush, I COULDN'T vote for Nagin, but I have NO choice but to believe they are doing everying they can to make the situations better. Political bashings are never productive and in times like these, you don't have to suck all of the leaders' dicks...uhmm, or tits, but I think a simple "thank you for all the help" would suffice. Put yourself in a govt official's situation, I'm sure it's as daunting a task as any. Are you in charge of people at work? A CEO? That pales in comparison to helping literally millions of people and making sure that they're safe. Everyone's intentions on this forum are good for the most part, but I just felt the need to rant. I'm not slashing anyone in particular here, just posted for a general read.

Wow. I didn't even intend for this to be a political thread. It was mainly a joke, because it was only a matter of time before he popped his head in.

That being said, I can't help but think that maybe, just maybe, his presence may actually help. Somebody with his clout and influence among the Black Population may actually do some good with making the refugees believe that we're doing everything we can to get them out of there and maybe it will help keep the looters at bay.

It's only when he comes in and says that this is all a vast conspiracy by "The Man" to strike down the Blacks will I become more disgusted. I heard that there was a radio station in Memphis that was talking about how the hurricane was a way to further oppress the Black Population and how it was no coincidence that its name was Katrina (a black name apparently?). I was speechless when I heard that.

How? WTF can Jesse Jackson do to help the situation in New Orleans. Appeal to the looters in Ebonics?

Good...Now that he's here, put him in one of the rescue boats--first one in the front--so that these snipers have a target.

Not really. Hearing that stuff still makes me speechless, though.

Sometimes I am accused of not being too smart, so, if you will, help me out here. You said JJ is in the city to help. Exactly what is he bringing to the table? What Federal, State, or Local Government Entity is he in charge of that can bring resources to those in need? Is he able to increase the speed or size of the distributions by improving logistics? All he can do is make promises to his constituency that he has no legitimate grounds to make, and then subvert the process to contradict the greater public good. He will have appeased his backing, and in our acceding to his coercion, and further fracture the framework of what was once an organized society.

    And I can't resist:

Well, actually we all know where Jesse Jackson probably is -- in a luxury hotel room somewhere getting it on with his latest female protégé, or busy shaking down some guilt-ridden white corporation or other.
