Students and Others The Florida game and the South Carolina game both wittnessed some pretty rough chants that really degrated the the LSU image to the visitors. Fans, please encourage your friends and families to show a little class. LSU had a terrible image only a few short years ago, that was blamed on the students. Namely, damaging visitors cars, buses, assaulting the visitors with empty beer bottles, thrown food, etc. LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman encouraged fans, student fans, and game day law enforcement to take a stand against that kind of action. As it turned out, those who were arrested for such behavior were rarely students, but visitors only on campus for the game of the day. Fans, students and non-students, began to stand between the visitors and their attackers, quelling the incidents. Also, many of the attackers were arrested because of the intervention of fans who also deplored the unwanted reputation. Maybe some of the present day students were not at LSU then. It was only three or four years ago. But, partly because of the student body taking a stand, our image as a hostile place for visitors is vanishing. Today we hear far more applause for our friendliness. I would hope that the same kind of action can be taken to quell the vulgar chants against visiting teams and individual players. Students were able to raise enough to build that beautiful habitat for our tiger mascots. Millions of bucks. I'd bet that the same could be done to help this problem. Good Luck!
Your point is well made and taken. I'm just not sure how one goes about convincing adults not to engage in criminal behavior as you cite above. I would hope that a good Tiger fan would report criminal behavior, regardless of the school affiliation of the victim. I know your intentions are good. Good luck with your pursuit.
