1. He's a dickhead, but it is a fact. Yes, slavery existed for 4 years under the confederate flag and 81 years under the American flag.

  2. There is the Stat I was looking for
  3. Culpable? Seriously? Sorry amigo, but that's overreaction and misplaced anger, I think. At a time when an awful lot of white people are ready to consider some more serious unity efforts, this kind of side issue is divisive and unnecessary. As Pinckney said, respect for history includes respect for other peoples history. Unity requires respect in two directions.
  4. So did Wilkes-booth. The issue is not if they are idiots or not but how they can affect others and the direction of civilization. Society should make it clear that this type of thought ignorant, baseless and not acceptable.
  5. 82 years and a few months. 1783-1865

This point is addressed nicely by douglas's 4th of July speech.
  6. Amazing how the issue of the Confederate Flag did exactly what it was intended to do: distract people from a meaningful discussion about gun control laws and limiting universal availability of guns.

  7. I agree, but I suspect that "heritage" is a smokescreen mostly, although it has now been ingrained in many families. It's also a reaction to the reconstruction similar to the treaty of Versailles causing the rise of the nazis.
  8. What great power planned this?

Gun control is a nonissue in this "democracy".
  9. Now the PC crowd is going way overboard with the Rebel Flag thing. Amazon has removed any merchandise that displays the flag. Apple store has removed any apps that have a likeness of the Rebel flag. It's probably easier to buy a Nazi flag now than a Rebel flag. Somebody is going to make a lot of money selling Rebel flags.
  10. It's been discussed and rejected. Should Roof have had a gun? No. But who was going to stop him from buying one? He had no criminal record. He was over the age of 21. If his friends had reported him to the police for being weird what could the police do? It's not against the law to be weird. If it was a lot of people would be in jail because somebody who didn't like them called the cops on them. Nobody really knows how nuts somebody is until they go bonkers.
