SEC west looks terrible. Arkansas, Miss St., and Ole Miss are terrible. Auburn is mediocre. Only teams with any shot at the SEC west are Alabama and LSU. Right now it really looks like the SEC is down overall and look for the media to start to jump on that bandwagon soon. Florida and Tenn. did not look like world beaters last night. Meyer seemed to be really conservative in that game. I think Tenn will give LSU all they want because their defense looks about 50 times better than ASU's. LSU will not be able to score at will against their defense like ASU's. Although is Ainge plays like he did in the second half, LSU defense can give a five yard cushion and he would miss wide open recievers. However, if he plays like he did in the second quarter LSU could be in real trouble.
The SEC isn't down--4 teams in the top 11 surely doesn't indicate a "down" year.... WEST: LSU! ranked 3rd in nation. 'Bama -- They potentially have a chance for an 8-9 win season. Especially if Croyle stays healthy. Their defense is tough and they'll be a top 20 team soon enough Auburn -- They'll, at the least, be a bowl team. Possibly a top 25 team before it's over (depending on the Iron Bowl this year) Ole Miss -- mediocre last season--even worse off this season Arkansas -- a joke of a team thus far MSU -- still 2-3 seasons away from even thinking post season EAST: Florida -- ranked top 10. Inside track to East title UGA -- ranked top 10. Good chance to be East champs especially with help from us (beating UT and UF) Tenn. -- ranked 11th. South Carolina -- give one reason why South Carolina won't qualify for a bowl this season under Spurrier when they did last season under Holtz??? Vandy -- They'll end up with 6 wins and qualify for a bowl game this year. They'll lose to every other SEC team on their schedule except Kentucky and finish 6-5. Kentucky -- worst in the EAst, but could still probably beat Arkansas, and MSU and give Ole Miss a game. You want to talk about a conference being down? Look no further than the Big XII! They have Texas in the top 10 and that's it. Texas Tech is a joke with the way they schedule opponents (non-conference). Texas A&M is inconsistant--no doubt they can beat a top 15 opponent, but which team will show up??? OU is taking it on the chin. OSU isn't going to win 6 games. Baylor is Baylor. Iowa State is the top team in the North. Colorado will probably qualify for a bowl but is nothing special. Nebraska is struggling. Mizzou doesn't look to have an "all world team". Kansas St. is down....again. Kansas has never been up.... And if the media wants to start nit-picking on conferences, then they could have a field day with the PAC-10 as well. USC, UCLA, Cal and ASU are the ONLY teams in that conference that look respecitble. And of that group, only USC looks great. Cal is ok. ASU looks solid. UCLA isn't going to beat up on everyone. Oregon St? Pa-lease! Washington JUST got their first win of the season. Oregon will lose to someone they shouldn't and ASU looks like they could take the Pac-10's pride all at once with one win over USC.
This is based on preseason polls which in my opinion are a waste of time. I don't truly believe that Florida, UGA, or Tenn. deserved top ten rankings based on the way they have played. LSU was ranked really highly preseason and surely did not play like a top ten team the first game. LSU get the benefit of the doubt right now due to only one game played. Tenn won't be ranked 11th after LSU hopefully beats them. South Carolina - They will be lucky to get 6 wins. They still have to play at Auburn, at Tenn., Florida, and Clemson. They will have to pull an upset of one of these games to become bowl eligible. Vandy - should end up with six wins but they are still Vandy and anything can with them. I would not be shocked if they lost to Richmond. Would you or anybody else really be all that shocked? You and I agree about the west teams. The bottom three are a really bad bottom three. If LSU does not win every one of these games by three TDs it will be disappointing. While I don't disagree one bit, it will now be hard for LSU to overtake UT in the polls because not only is the little 12 down but so is the SEC. Once UT moved to number two in the polls, I can not see LSU overtaking them due to the west's bottom three bringing LSU down. If you have to agree LSU being in the west certainly does not help. I can't see UF going undefeated as well either. Meyer looked ultraconservative for a coach with less than a touchdown lead most of the night. Coaching like that against UGA could cost him the game.
We'll get our quality points from teams we play in the East (Tenn, Florida) while Texas won't really get any from any team, reguardless of division, in the Big XII
Bama is flying under the radar, I've sorta said that all year. Of course anything can happen in football. Vandy may win more than 6, time will tell. for once they aren't on bottom. They have Ole Miss and Moo U. to look down on.. :hihi: Don't count UGA or Auburn as pushovers. Florida is dangerous because of Leake and his wide outs. Tenn can win at anytime, they have good talent, just poor coaching. Fulmer can recruit thugs and talent he just doesn't seem to be that great at game day. ANY one of these teams can suprise someone, hopefully not us. On a brighter note, I don't think the piggies, Moo U. or Ole Myth are going to suprise anyone this year. :dis:
Im curious which teams you think have played indicatively of a top 10 team. USC? Texas? I might be convinced of that, but otherwise, you cant tell me that any other team has looked good enough (or better enough than we have) to be represented in the top 10. No one has looked good this year. Not FSU, Miami, Michigan, or any of the other teams that started the season in the top 10, sans USC and Texas. It is still early in the year, and there are a lot of young teams this year. We havent even had a "warm-up game" yet, and we wont until after next week. Top 10 teams never look that great at the beginning of the year, with few exceptions.
I can't believe no one has mentioned the Big 10. Talk about letting people down so far this season! LSU Engineer, whether you think the SEC teams deserve to be in the top 10 or not is inconsequential. They are there & all that matters is where they are when we play them. College football is having a "down" year, not the SEC.
Then who the hell are you going to put in the Top 10? Lousiville who barely beat Kentucky? FSU who flat out sucks? Miami/OSU with 1 loss already? Who? Iowa?
