I like both blends and single-malts both. I like smooth blends with water on ice and smokey single-malts neat. I don't have to spend a lot to get a decent blend. Black & White, Johnny Walker, or Cutty Sark works for me. Oban is my single-malt of choice although a Glenfiddich suits me fine.
might have to take a road trip then. Agreed, it is by FAR my favorite drink. No other whiskey comes close in my book. they shut down all 3 Winn Dixies in Houma a few years back. Cannata's usually has the largest alcohol (especially beers) selection in town, but I usually avoid going to that part of town, so don't know if they carry it or not. I've got a lil time now since I just bought a bottle of Chivas last night. Initial reaction: Not bad. It'll work in a pinch. I find it has more of an after taste than others I've had. Worth the the 5-10 extra dollars over DeWar's white label, but probably would have been better off spending another $5 for The GlenLivet.

Lagavulin, is a very nice scotch...I actually prefer it over the Johnnie Walker blue label...if you're ever in New Orleans, stop by D.B.A's on Frenchman St., excellent selection of scotches
I don't care much for blended scotch but Johnny Walker contains blends of several of my favorites anyway, so I can drink that if I have to. Single malt might not be for you, as the peet is far more pronounced. Any of the Macallans are nice. They are aged in sherry casks so they have more of an amber color and sweeter taste. Not much peet. Some are done in other barrels, but most are in old sherry. 25 yr old Mac is really special. This scotch allowed me to once say that my scotch was older than my girlfriend....and still be legal. :grin: Balvenie - all ages Oban - top two for me. good weight, just the right amount of peet and heat. Dalwhinnie Aberlour Bunnahabhain Cragganmore Glen Rothes Glenkinchie Glenmorangie Lagavulin - the heaviest, you need to work up to this. Actually matches well with homemade chocolate chip cookies - REALLY!
If you want the best whiskey, pick up a bottle of Middleton Irish. It is expensive, about $140 per, but is absolutely the best sipping whiskey you'll ever taste. Comes in a beautiful oak box, each bottle numbered. For that special occasion it is a drink you will remember a long time.
