Prude has consistently been one of the better tacklers on defense. He's made a lot of open field tackles, and it's rare that someone breaks one of his tackles. That has been his most impressive quality, IMO.
you know, I never noticed that last year but this year is different. reason may be last year he made the breakup/deflectio/pick of the pass before it was ever complete. this year he seems to be in position most of the time yet the passes are dropping in quite often and he seems to hold the defender up if at all. It may be the deion complex. I still think its the strength in hair thingy.
I think the 2 CB spots next year will be occupied by two of these three guys: Sammy Joseph Ronnie Prude Mario Stevenson
And if you go back and watch game tapes you will see him waiting toi hit guys instead of moving in to make the hit, he's usually close to a lot of tackles but not actually in the mix. And on Birminghams long TD for the hogs last season he actually moved out of the way on the sideline and acted like a bullfighter.
I think Prude should move to free safety with his tackling ability. His pass coverage leaves something to be desired. Can you imagine Prude and Landry at safeties? Then you put Stevenson and Jackson at CB, with Gordon at nickel and try to get a transfer for your dime back or play one of your incoming stud freshman. Jesse Daniels would be an adequate backup at free safety.
Prude broke up the pass on the fake punt that led to a TD in the ARK game. He did a great job of reading the reciever and not looking back at the ball.
i think his pass coverage skills have been fine yet that play and not looking back worried me, coulda been a flag.
I'd forgotten about that particular play. Prude showed great awareness on that play. Arkansas is known to check off on in punting situations and call a fake if they read the right defense for it. Prude baited them all the way. He started out covering the receiver/coverage guy, then quickly came in to show blitz/outside punt rish. Arkansas did their check off, the man pointed behind his back to the right, indicating it to the punter. As soon as the ball was snapped, Prude hauled tail to the receiver to cover him. Excellent play by Prude.
