    How appropriate - South India...

...the ancestral home of the Bengal Tiger...

    ...our beloved mascot...

...is it possible you were a tiger fan before you became a Tiger fan?

P.S. One of the places I loved to camp at when I lived in La was the Primitive Campground area in the Kisatchie National Forest, not far from Pineville...

If a guy from the Asian subcontinent of India can become a football fan there may yet be some hope for the soccer hooligans from Europe and South America.

I've never been to India but when I was 6 years old my Dad's company sent him to Bombay for a few months. He had some very interesting stories to tell about life in India and the culture.

    BengalB -

Just remember - the sport of choice in India is cricket - being that was part of the British Empire at one time...

...in fact, there is a large group of South indians who play weekend pickup cricket matches at the junior high next to my house...

    ...strange, yet interesting game...

    ...a sticky wicket????

I've never seen a game of cricket even on TV but live crickets are very good bait for panfish. The worlds largest live cricket distributor is located in Fluker, LA.

India is a nation of extremes of wealth and poverty. There was a 13 year old Indian kid in my high school graduating class who had been in the USA for less than a year. In rural India the practice of Bride Burning still exists to this day. What is Bride Burning? If the bride's family dosen't pay a big enough dowry in money, cows, goats or whatever to the groom's family the groom's family might just tie the bride to a stake and set her on fire.

Every person I have ever met from India in the USA has been both intelligent and successful as a doctor or a business owner.
Obviously India has a great educational system for the upper castes.

I hope this still dosen't go on but my Dad told me that when he was in Bombay in the late 50's that beggars who lived on the streets would deliberately maim and cripple their offspring so as to make them more pitiful and thus more successful beggars.

    Yeah, maybe so...

...its been over 25 years ago, & I used to go with a group of buddies (and the occasional "outdoorsy" date), one of whom grew up in Alexandria...

What I remember the most is that there was a little creek/river cascading down some little hills, beautiful piney woods. a GOOD public toilet nearby...

...and man, we built some MONSTER fires out there...

...no fires or fireworks out here...

...or you'll burn the whole damn tinderbox state down...
