But the Gulf has had 3 weeks to warm up again. The positive spin (for us at least--i.e. Baton Rouge) is that the models are probably the closest together as I've seen them yet (I know models can't be 100% accurate, but it leads me to believe that the storm will actually make landfall between Corpus Cristi and Galveston).
Man, I remember how disorganized Katrina looked before it hit Miami. It looks like the Gulf this year is like Miracle Grow for these dang things... I dread seeing one that goes into the gulf as a Cat 2.
I friend of mine is a meterologist and I asked him if a Louisiana landfall was likely or possible. His response was if Rita slows down its forward speed it would then be very likely as the High thats in place will weaken and move. The faster Rita moves the safer we are.
I was the one that was saying the thing about the waters being stired up. Here is the reasons that theroy still holds water. Katrina came across Florida and weakened, while Rita has yet to cross over a major portion of land. So the strenght she is showing is the result of her track. Now the second reason it was today that Rita is spliting away from Katrinas path, at this point Katrina had already statred her turn North, so Rita is now getting over fresh unchurned waters. And because of this we now see the SUDDEN buildup. It is truely amazing Katrina took 3 days to become a Cat 5, Rita did it in LESS THAN 24HOURS!
This my opinion on why the Gulf is so warm. Think back 3 to 5 years ago and how much rain the Midwest states where getting. The Mississippi River was at all time highs. And the fresh water being dumped into the Gulf was screwing up the natural balance. Last year and this year they did not have the amounts of rain like they had been having thus the Gulf's balances is back to normal which is usual pretty warm. Just what I think. I think the reason I am such a hurricane junkie is because I need something to keep me busy during the summer months before LSU football starts back up.
Be afraid Texas. Be very afraid. Some dumb woman was telling Fox news that she is staying on Galveston Island because her daughter is leaving Beaumont and on her way to Galveston to meet her. She doesn't want to leave because her daughter will arrive and not know where she is. Hello? Cell phones? Also, does daughter watch the news? Some people are too dumb to live.
my buddy also said that everyone needs to get used to this type of active hurricane season. It won't be a one year thing, he said the next 15-20 years will be like this. Everyone HOLD ON!!!
Its gonna be longer than just that. I think we are gonna have to create Cat 6, 7, 8's for the storms that might happen. After watching that Asian Climatetlogist(sp) from LSU talk about seeing hurricanes that have not existed since the dinosaurs I think we are on the verge of seeing something that movies are made about. Cat 5 storms are gonna be the normal.
