Judging by the early accounts, he died a hero apparently saving the life of his companion.

My condolences to his family, friends, and teammates. A tragic but heroic loss.

 

The biggest shame is that it could have been so easily prevented. Sad indeed.

 

May the Lord bless him and keep him
May His face shine upon him
May his soul and the souls of all of the faithfully departed through the mercy of God rest in peace
Amen.

 

He died as he had lived; with courage and dignity.
