that's exactly what position I thought he would be moved to & for the same reasons. All of his playing time at qb should help him in reading what the opposing qb is going to do. He's always been a very physical player & hope this works out for him. He was a class act his entire career in BR.

This could work out beautifully for MR, and I certainly wish him the best of success. I always wished that we could've moved him from QB to a different position because he was a great athlete wasted, largely because he just wasn't a great QB. That didn't mean he couldn't be a great football player.

Geaux Marcus Randall--you were an incredibly unselfish Tiger!

I concur. I sincerely hope Randall becomes one of the best DB's the NFL has ever seen.

Of course then we may be left wondering if the coverage would've been blown in the Capitol One Bowl.

    Ahhh, but who cares?

Good luck Randall. May you have a long, great and lucrative career.

Dont want to put the racial spin on this, but this just illustrates an opinion I've always had about forcing black athletes to play QB. Starting in middle schools, these kids are put into option offenses because they are the best athlete on the team, so they play QB. Even if they suck at QB skills, like passing and reading offenses, coaches still stick them there because the coach wants to win. You see this all of the time. THats why players like Early Doucet and even Kevin Faulk played QB in HS. These coaches are doing these players a big disservice by not playign them in a position that they will be likely to play in college. Had Randall come into LSU as a DB or RB prospect, I believe that he would have had an outstanding college career. Now dont get me wrong, Im not sayign that black kids can't play QB, I'm just sayign that usually the best "athlete" on a team is a black kid, and that kid is usually forced to play qb, especially at a small school.

I agree with you to an extent even though the wording was a little blunt for me... but yeah... best of luck to Marcus...

Maybe he can be the long-passer on the next Music City Miracle! hahah

I see what you are saying , however, just because you dont play in your optimal position in HS or college doesnt mean that you wont eventually be successful. Most of the time if you are going to make it, then you are going to make it. Plenty of players switch positions after HS. I would imagine that it is almost better to have not played your best position until you get into college. That way you dont have to unlearn bad habits that you may have picked up at the HS level. You get to start out fresh. That might mean that it takes you a little longer to get the system, but it could make you into a better player.

yes, that does make a lot of sense, but at the same time in the secondary, to be the best, you have to PLAY PLAY AND do more PLAYING...

the only way to read things out there is by seeing them happen over and over again

I know I'll sound like a homer, but this may work b/c in the playoffs, Perrilloux played safety and picked off a couple passes, and he said it was easy for him, b/c he knew how to read a QB's eyes, so all of you who said being a QB may help him, you are on to something

I lived with a guy from glen oaks in the fall of 2002 (when mauck was hurt and randall go the starts vs south carolina and some other teams)

we were at southeastern louisiana (slu) and him and his friends told me that marcus's dad or brother or uncle was a coach at glen oaks, and one (brother uncle or dad) was a coach at southern.

marcus was a great high school safety, and had it not been for his coaching connections and an (at that time) advanced knowledge of the game, he would have been a safety his whole career. I hear the guy can knock the snot out of guys coming across the field...

dont know if it's heresay or just some guys' opinions but they all agreed that he was twice the player at safety than at qb.

he's still one of my favorite tigers though.
