Lickey should be suing her attorney for giving her bad advice. Lickey's attorney should have told her to let them fire her. LSU bluffed Lickey and she took the bait and resigned. Nothing was illegal about it. In fact it it happens all the time in the legal field.
It's unfortunate that the lure of a possibly large settlement has guided her to attack her former school, when it has not been disputed by her that she acted improperly. Not at any time, has she denied these "rumors" or charges. Pokey has already lost and perhaps she feels she has nothing else to lose by taking this step. The real losers in this case will be the student(s) involved, and the university. I had hoped that Pokey had more respect for both, but apparently not. I doubt she can win, but she certainly can cause a great deal of damage in the process. Really hard not to be bitter towards her now...
Well, the fact is . . . she did resign and was not fired. I assume LSU has the right to place someone on administrative leave while an investigation is being conducted. Coercion is easy to allege but may be hard to prove. LSU has precedents in how they handled the resignation of the softball and track coach for similar incidents in the 90's. Pokey tried to resign and keep the matter quiet, even coach her team in the tourney, followed by a search for a new job. This happened with the softball coach. But the story came out anyway. Now that Pokey's private life is public, her lawyer is just trying to get money from LSU.
If I am not badly mistaken, Pokey's "mentor" was a gay woman. (I talking basketball knowledge here guys) She never did anything to cast a shadow on LSU and was highly respected. Not only at LSU, but throughout the SEC and the nation. Pardon the pun, but---Pokey screwed herself!!!!!!!!!:bball:
correct. this just magnifies how exemplary a person coach sue gunter was as well as a coach. she was a class act my friend and would never harm LSU for her own gain. this pokey thing doesn't bother me just yet but it looks like its not far from doing so.
LSU finally had enough of her behavior, had a sit-down, and wanted her to resign at the end of the season after the tournament. LSU was willing to waive the buy-out and let her go on to other things without disclosing anything. She absolutely refused that offer and retained a lawyer. LSU said, fine, we can do this the hard way. She is still not satisfied with what she's got. I personally believe that between her and her laywer, the timing of the Imus debacle was just right to get sympathy from the general public being the young woman of color that she is and that she is being prevented from a lucrative career.... Lickey needed to keep her tongue in her mouth and maybe she would still be in the coaching business.
This whole thing is disappointing. It was reported, and I suppose widely accepted that she had an "inappropriate" relationship with someone she shouldn't have. If that is true, she made a choice and is responsible. While that should be the end of the story, I realize that responsibility often takes a back seat to money. Female athletes are often unfairly categorized as lesbians. Pokey's behavior only furthers that notion. Sad.
I didnt care much about this except the embarrassment if could cause LSU but now Im getting a little ticked off. She should just go away but I think LSU will end up settling for a much smaller sum however, this is blatant extortion if you ask me. Neither of the parties wants all her flat cacking exploits to become public knowledge but she has nothing to lose. She is as embarrassed and humiliated as one can be. Now she wants to do the same to LSU. Its also looks like we have confirmation that more than just one player is involved along with the assistant coach who was obviously getting her licks in too. Pokey sure gets around. Sounds like the proverbial slut and with an endless supply of fresh meat coming into the BBall program she was in hog heaven.
