Maybe because it reflects HOW the game was played.

We've won games this year by being dominant on offense and/or defense. This is the first time (Tulane notwithstanding; that one was always just a matter of time) that a team really came in and made our guys dig down deep and show their heart. I'd say they passed that test with an A+. Can anyone still doubt that LSU is a national championship calibre team?

Brett - for what it's worth, LSU Sports has the stats broken up by quarters.

Sorry so late - life intruded on LSU football today...

It's called analysis. But I hear ya. I find it fun, but I can see where some folks would find it annoying.

where are people getting the idea that we were outplayed in the 3rd quarter? people see something posted and run with it like a herd of cows...UF had the ball in the 3rd for like 5 minutes total...they scored on a blown assignment, and that's it..the rest of the quarter was either PUNT or turnovers...we controlled the entire 2nd half more so than they did the first half (and in fact most of the 2nd qtr was even or better)

I think it might have been easy to feel like LSU was getting outplayed just based on the score for 3 quarters. The truth, however, is in the details. As I posted early in the thread, LSU and UF played almost identical games for the entire first three quarters except for penalties and turnovers. Once Florida stopped being perfect in those two categories, we were able to "break serve" and get back in the game from a scoring perspective.

We'll see. Had we lost the game would any of these criticisms be relevant? If so, because the margin of error was so small, I don't see how these criticisms become irrelevant because we won. I was impressed with the grit of our offense. I was impressed with Florida's offense because of their dynamic play. Against our defense, which many consider superior to Florida's, Florida's offensive performance is even more impressive.

We may not have threatened downfield by plan, but this is the third game where our downfield passing was average or less. Mauck seems less hobbled now, so hopefully he'll start performing like he did early in the season. I think he's getting rid of the ball very quickly because of all the sacks he took against Tulane. No time for the receivers to make plays downfield. Smart teams will take advantage of that.
