    I say each team gets a possession.. once each team has ahd a possession then it goes to sudden death.. so whether its a punt, kickoff after a score, turnover.. whatever.. once a both teams have possessed theball its sudden death..

    No they use it because statistics show that like 80% of sudden death OT games were won by the team that wins the coin toss, which they considered was not a fair way to decide a 60 minute game that regulation ended with a tie.
