Ole War Skule?

Can anyone explain what Ole War Skule refers to? I've never heard this part of LSU history.

The school originated as a military school and all students were required to be in ROTC until the early 70s.

 

ROTC was mandatory for all entering freshmen until 1969.

 

Yeah. My Pa-Pa used to tell me stories about him running from the Physics building after class to catch up with his ROTC group as they were marching around the Parade Grounds. Those were some great stories.

 

Interesting read. Anyone know where those brass cannons are now?????

 

They are in front of the ROTC building near the stadium, last time I looked (which has been a few years).

 

They are on South Stadium Dr., facing the road.
