Pretty good article. The writing styles have changed a lot over the years.

What a great read. Pistol was my childhood idol. I remember him playing basketball on a Saturday morning at the YMCA in Metairie. Back then it was not uncommon to have stars hanging out in the neighborhood.

Never the less, it was a pick up game I was waiting to join the next game.

Pete comes just past half court, I mean no more than a step or two. He shoots the ball, turns his back to the basket and starts to run to the other end of the court to play defense. Before he reaches the other side you hear, "Swish". It was safely a 40 foot jump shot without much effort.

Pistol Pete is who got my son interested in basketball. He watched a special one day and was intrigued. The kid can ball...much better than his old man ever could.
