Whoa, I didn't realize he didn't have a PhD. Not that that should automatically disqualify him from being a candidate, but it will make it more difficult for him to get the more pointy-headed braniacs to fall into line with his agenda. I have no doubt he is a good choice though; you don't get to run NASA by being stupid. He has a good background for administration and what it takes to get an organization in good financial shape and get good exposure, which by itself, improves a university. You know how stuffed-shirt nerds can be though; they probably wanted another stuffed-shirt nerd, just like them, to be Chancellor, and that was the crease Blanco tried to use to foil this choice. Not gonna happen though; education progressives still have a lot of power in this state, especially in LSU's inner circle.
He seems to be an excellent hire for LSU, one who has the political connections to bring more prestige to my beloved alma mater! His resume is too impressive to be overly concerned about a doctorate--though I'm sure, as someone mentioned earlier, that some of the "ivory tower" sorts will feel somehow superior to his, in spite of his "real world" experience that doesn't need to hide behind a stack of books and a degree.
I saw O'Keefe being interviewed on FOX news this morning about the return to flight of the Space Shuttle. His new job as LSU Chancellor was mentioned. At the end of the interview,the host said "go tigers" and O'Keefe said thanks and "geaux tigers", clearly pronouncing it the way a lot of LSU fans do. Some of you guys just need to get to work to get hin an honorary doctor's degree.
