I tend to agree. They aren't that bad, but we don't have the depth that we are used to on the line. The starters have to play the whole game and they are picking up injuries as a result. And getting tired,

    • Arnold is a fine OL. Without the injury he would have been all-SEC and made some All-American lists.
    • Brett Helms is another good one, but still hobbled by injuries.
    • Big Herm is just not very quick, he can pass block very well, but he won't be pulling and leading the sweep like Faneca.
    • Dyakowski and Brian Johnson are experienced seniors, but not exceptional athletes, they do a capable, but not spectacular job.
    • Ryan Miller and Ciron Black are young and inexperienced, but they are comers who will be All-SEC candidates before they leave LSU.

I don't disagree that individually they are all good players, but as a unit they are horrible. Run blocking has never been there and pass blocking started out pretty good and has progressively gotten worse.

Stacy Searles has much to answer for this season. I think he's a good coach, but he hasn't gotten this run-blocking thing fixed yet . . . and it's time.

I have not really seen a lapse in pass blocking. What do you base that on?

Don't you think these 2 posts contradict each other? With a healthy Arnold and Helms, Searles might be a better coach.

Based on the pressure teams like Tulane and Fresno STate were able to create on JR. Not so much in the forms of sacks, but in the form of hurries. His time to throw has decreased as the season progressed and sadly against weaker competition. Thankfully he has handled it pretty well and the receivers were able to get open much quicker against these teams.

Tell me if this is true, but I heard that LSU went to the zone blocking scheme like the Denver Broncos? If so, did we start that this year or last year?

Maybe the reason our run blocking is so bad is because of the scheme. It probably takes a while to get it down pat. Like when Saban instituted his complex defensive scheme, it took a few years for it to work, but when it did work, it was awesome. And when the new zone blocking works like it does for denver, can u say Scott/Kei W for Heisman. We're probably gonna have to go smaller on the o-line like denver as well. Cause they have one of the smallest o-lines in the NFL. Maybe that's another reason the run blocking isn't working, we're too Big. I guess time will tell.

At least he would look like one. Searles would look even better if Phil Loadholt has shown up, but he has to produce with what he has. I said that I think Searles is a good coach, but he does have a run-blocking problem and it's his job to get 'er done. Injuries are part of the game and Searles must develop some depth to compensate. I think he's the right man for the job, but he does have a job . . . to get his line run-blocking better.

We have good depth on the defensive line, Miles maybe could have asked a defensive lineman to move to offense in August. Whatever is best for the team.

i dont see how it can be expected for this OL to do well against UF and AU. their defensive front sevens are on par with LSUs. if LSU's front seven didnt do well against such an inexperienced OL we'd be going nuts. this OL is young and hasnt played together much because of injuries. has the same lineup started twice this season? all things considered, theyve done ok. we all new this would be the weakness going into the season, and with ab's slow going its been exacerbated.
