Actually I hardly noticed the picture board this game. I was just wondering if there was a common methodology behind them and why they originated. Did some near sighted QB have trouble seeing the hand signals? In the past, to stop the opposition from stealing signals for plays some teams have multiple people giving the signals so the other team doesn't know which are the real signals. Some QB's wear the plays on their wrists to make it easier, etc.. It just seems like there must be a logical reason for them other than to be cute. Maybe I'll try to google it and see if I can find out if no one knows. I should have asked this question before we played Oregon so one of their fans could give us their majestic history, but I'm really late.
oregon began using it after the rose bowl against Ohio St because they thought they were stealing their signals. Oklahoma st used it against them in the holiday bowl. well something similar. so they thought it was a good idea. but the main reason is to get their plays in quicker for this fastbreak thing they run. football players are better looking at pictures than reading sign language. the placards show play, snap count and formation.
