A newspaper in Alabama has gone back on its report that legendary Oakland Raiders quarterback Kenny Stabler died.

The Tuscaloosa News published a report on Friday, stating that Stabler had passed away at the age of 69. However, minutes later, the News went back on its story.

The four-time Pro Bowler, nicknamed "The Snake," played for three different teams during his 15-year career, but is best known for his time with the Oakland Raiders throughout the 1970s. He led the league in touchdown passes in 1974 and 1976 and was the man under center when the Silver and Black won Super Bowl XI.

Stabler was a second-round pick of the Raiders out of Alabama in 1968, but didn't get on the field until 1970. He played 10 seasons in Oakland before spending two with the Houston Oilers and three with the New Orleans Saints.

Many outlets, including FOX Sports, picked up the initial report before it was retracted.

He's gonna go eventually but sucks for the family to read if it's not true. Stabler to Biletnikoff was one of my favorite duos.

No doubt. Momma says it was not the drugs....sleep apnea. This is now the official go-to excuse for famous types who OD but family doesn't want it out there.
