Oderus Urungus died at 50. I think my favorite Gwar moment was them on the Wally George show. It was great.

The greatest nerd rock band of all time. A highly influential and highly intellegent chap, that never took himself too seriously.
There are nerd bands???? Who are the others? Pete and the Pocket Protectors? Gary and the Geeks? The Hard Drives? The Algorythyms? The Silicone Valley Girls?
You would be surprised how engaged and how nerdy a lot of musicians are. Tom Morello and Brian Warner come to mind.
