Does anyone know anything aout the symptoms of a poisoned dog?
In one weeks time, my 3 year old lab went from a healthy, happy, energetic dog, to a really lethargic, depressed animal that lost close to 20 pounds. I just found her dead about an hour ago. The Vet didnt suspect poison earlier this week, but that was early in her symptoms. What else could drag a young healthy dog to death so quick?

I would have my vet check for poisoining. They can only check for antifreeze and rat poison but it couldn't hurt to have him check it out. I was wondering if you have any enemies like a neighbor that may have wanted to punish you or your dog, and if the check comes back positive for poison I would contact my local police agency. It does sound like poison to me, I have not heard of anything that can do that to a dog in such a short amount of time. Sorry to hear of your loss!!

I can only think of one of my neighbors who would do something like that, but I don't think he would do it to me. His family and mine have been friends for generations. Plus, he has 2 labs in his yard (one came from my dogs only litter). And I know he wouldn't want me to take any kind of revenge.

I am so sorry for your loss, I do not know about nothing to do with poison either, but I do hope it was just something else. I would have the vet check it out though.

Again I am sorry for your loss, please know that I will be thinking about you and your family in the loss of your pet.

Have the vet do an autopsy. I still don't know what happen to my Keeshond, but her kidneys had been become hard as a rock, she degraded much like your dog. If your vet finds the same and has a reason, please let me know.

If it was rat poison then he would have blood in his stool, usually.

Your dog could have had bloat, it is very common in labs. My great dane bloated and had those same symptoms, the idiot vet that he was brought to did not find it and recommended that we put him to sleep. We didn't we brought him to LSU and they did surgery, removed 1/3 of his stomach and today 2years later he is great.

Here is a link to the symptoms http://www.globalspan.net/bloat.htm#Symptoms
