Montgomery's statement should not be surprising to any LSU fans. I think we are one of the worst about playing to the level of our competition. It is, however, very disappointing to watch. I hope this sort of mentality is addressed during the offseason.

The 2011 team seems to be the only exception to this pattern, those dudes brought it week in and week out.

I think that leadership has a lot to do with that, as well. It's one thing for your coach to tell you to be "up" vs Jackoff St, but it's another to see key upperclassmen actually bringing the pain against said opponent.

Why not just remember him for all the great things he did at LSU? He played 2 full seasons.

Very good point. Unfortunately, nobody really emerged as a team leader this year; and with the mass exodus for the NFL I wonder if we will face the same issue in the coming season.....

Copeland & Mettenberger really need to step-up and assume those roles. JC should channel that emotion that he's notorious for towards his teammates.

The 2011 team had no choice but to bring it week in and week out. With OOC games like Oregon and WVU, along with the usual suspects from the SEC, we couldn't take a week off. Our weak schedule may actually hurt our team in '12. Luckily, the '13 schedule is much more exciting.

    Really? because I would consider:

    Northwestern
    Western KY
    KY
and even Ole Miss (that year)

ALL cupcake teams. And they absolutely destroyed each one of them.....

Kentucky and Ole Miss are conference opponents, and we have struggled to beat both of them multiple times in the past. I'll give you Northwestern and Western Kentucky, but I'm not going to call any SEC opponent a cupcake because those cupcakes can win from time to time.

You might as well call every opponent (except Bama) we played in '11 a cupcake if the criteria was absolutely destroying them.

The '11 team may very well have been a once-in-a-lifetime team, and it sucks that they weren't national champions because people tend to forget how incredible they were. My dad and I were just discussing that last night.
