When I heard about the changes to the BCS calculations in the offseason, I was worried that the computer rankings would have little relevance on the BCS score/rankings. It looks like this is far from the case. Take a look at the current mock BCS standings by Brad Edwards:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=roadtobcs/0926

    Coaches Top 6:
    USC
    Oklahoma
    Georgia
    Miami
    Texas
    Ohio State

    AP Top 6:
    USC
    Oklahoma
    Georgia
    Miami
    Texas
    West Virginia

    BCS Standings:
    USC
    Miami
    Texas
    Georgia
    Ohio State
    Oklahoma

Notice that even though Oklahoma is #2 in both human polls, they are #6 in the BCS standings - which averages the AP/Coaches/Computer polls. Miami is #4 in both human polls, yet is #2 in the BCS rankings.

It may be too early to read into this, but at a glance and not being a numbers person as far as the BCS is concerned, it is promising to see that the human poll rankings do not necessarily override the BCS standings/rankings.

May be promising to you, but putting Miami as #2 worries me.

This stuff is going to change like crazy throughout the season. Any of these top 6 teams can lose, and when they do they will drop out of the running. Once 5 of these teams lose a game, then it will all be up for grabs again. This season is still very early, most of these top teams haven't played equally talented teams.

SC looked unstopable against everyone but Vtech, now the Stanford games gives us hope that they will drop a few games in confernece this year (and possible against ND).

OK has been playing outstanding football lately.

UGA has been playing pretty bad, for a team that has won all it's games so far. We will be their first real test.

Texas played well against Ark, but does anyone think they will actually beat OK?

Ohst will drop at least 1 or 2 games this year, they play these things so close that eventually they will lose one of them.

Miami did beat a top 10 team, but they haven't looked impressive against other teams. Almost playing down to the other team's level. Their D looks great, but that O is not up to par.

Basically I'm trying to say it is very early and that anything can happen. It is hard for 1 team to go undefeated, much less 5 of them.

Remember to that as the season progresses and they have less teams unbeaten the margins should start to widen some. If 2 teams end up being clear cut numbers one and two I don't think the BCS will be different but if there isn't a wide gap it could still come into play.
